To Kyoto University of
Foreign Studies’ Students:
MAKE-UP CLASSES FOR CLASS CANCELLATIONS
DUE TO
THE RECENT HEAVY RAINFALL
1. MAKE-UP CLASSES
We were obliged to cancel all classes of the 5th and the 6th periods on Thursday, July 5, and all classes on Friday, July 6, and Saturday, July 7, due to the unprecedented record heavy rainfall. With respect to make-up classes for those classes cancelled, the university has decided to cope with this unexpected situation in a flexible manner. It is difficult to set up additional days for make-up classes, and also to allocate enough classrooms. Furthermore, it is assumed that many professors cannot possibly conduct proper make-up classes, in view of the difficult circumstances that many of their students are facing this month. Accordingly, we have asked your professors to inform you, at their earliest possible convenience, as to whether or not they will conduct make-up classes. In the case make-up classes are conducted, we will inform you in advance on the Web Campus. Please inform your teachers if you can attend.
2. COMPLETING COURSE ASSIGNMENTS
We resumed classes on Monday, July 9, but it is assumed that there are a considerable number of students who are still inevitably obliged to be absent from classes, due to the recent heavy rainfall, and also due to the impact of the the Great Northern Osaka Earthquake which occurred on Monday, June 18. Therefore, you are kindly requested to inform your professors by email if you are having difficulties. If you cannot submit required assignments to your professors by the deadlines, due to the impact of the two natural disasters, please inform your professors. No submission of an official certificate is necessary to explain your situation.
We have asked your professors to take the following action for students who were absent, due to the two natural disasters:
- Distribute the same handouts to all students in your courses.
- Explain the content and the key teaching points of classes.
- Provide alternative ways for students to satisfy course requirements in the case of absences, and delays in the submission of assignments.
We have also asked your professors to take flexible measures to the extent possible so that those students, who have been affected or damaged by the recent disasters and calamities, will not be treated disadvantageously in their evaluations, as a result of their absences from classes and delays in submissions of their reports and papers.
We hope that you will be able to devote yourself to your studies without any worries about completing your course assignments this semester.
With my best wishes, I remain,
Sincerely,
Masayoshi Hashimoto
Director
