Kyoto is a big city surrounded by mountains, the main ones being Higashiyama, Kitayama, and Nishiyama.
Kyoto was established in 794 as the capital and over the next 1,000 years developed into a historically and culturally rich city. Kyoto has managed to preserve its history and culture and has become known as the cultural capital of Japan. Kyoto has not limited itself to the old; it continues to make efforts in developing new art, culture and traditions. This combination of the old and new, as well as the artistic atmosphere of Kyoto, is in sharp contrast to other cities in Japan.
Many traditional industries such as Nishijin-ori, which originated in Kyoto, are still kept in accordance with tradition, while high-tech industries have been established in recent years.

KUFS will introduce you to a real estate agency that will assist international students in finding housing in Kyoto.
This real estate agency always helps KUFS international students find housing, and they can help in English as well as Japanese, so please do not hesitate to let them know your desired rent, area, etc.
JCBP is a program in which international and Japanese students work in pairs to practice Japanese conversation. The buddies will converse in 40 minutes secctions on a consistent weekly basis. There is no set topic, so students can practice conversation in Japanese together.
We will arrange the "KUFS Student Assistant" to support international students coming to Japan to lead a smooth campus life.
Each international student is matched with a KUFS student assistant who will provide support on campus and around the university (ward office procedures, campus tours, etc.) after arriving in Japan.
Enjoy life in Japan while interacting with KUFS students!
Through participation in clubs and extracurricular activities, students can deepen their understanding of Japan and Japanese people. KUFS has various club activities that allow students to experience Japanese culture, such as tea ceremony and kendo (fencing) clubs, as well as clubs that focus on language exchange, so please be proactive in participating.
As well as the Completion Ceremony, we hold numerous events such as Welcome/Farewell Party and exchange events hosted by the Division of International Affairs.
Not only on campus, but also in Kyoto Prefecture, there are many public culture exchange events and volunteer activities with Japanese people.
This is a great opportunity to experience Japanese culture firsthand and deepen your understanding of Japan, so please be proactive and participate!
