Outline

1. Aim of the Program

This short-term intensive Japanese program is offered by the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies ("KUFS"). It is designed for students who wish to improve their Japanese proficiency while experiencing Japanese culture in Kyoto — an attractive, historical city and college town. We are looking forward to welcoming you here in Kyoto.

2. Duration of the Program

July 1 (Wed.), 2020 - July 19 (Sun.), 2020

4. Classes and Cultural Activities

  • Intensive basic-level Japanese classes for approx. 40 hours
    *
    All Japanese language courses are provided in small classes (approx. 10-15 per class) and divided into different proficiency levels, basic to advanced.
    *
    All Japanese language classes focus on authentic Japanese used in situations the learners may encounter during their stay in Japan and aim to develop their fluency through task-based activities. The levels and contents of the tasks used in classes differ depending on each learner's Japanese proficiency level.
  • Traditional Japanese cultural experiences (Tea ceremony, Calligraphy, Gion Festival, etc.)
  • Study Tours (2 days)
  • Cultural exchange activities

5. Maximum capacity

50 students (Min.: 10 students)

6. Qualification

  • Applicants must be either high school students, undergraduate students, or working adults (with a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalency).
  • Applicants must have basic knowledge of the Japanese language, such as Hiragana and Katakana.
  • Applicants must agree to the "Terms and Conditions" and "Declarations".

7. Program Fee

JPY 260,000

Including Tuition and class materials, accommodation fee, scheduled study tours and activities, Non-Halal breakfast & dinner served Mon.-Sat., and transportation pass (Accommodation ⇔ KUFS).
Not including Flight tickets, expenses for meals on Sundays, public holidays and all lunches, travel expenses between the airport and the accommodation, insurance and other personal expenses.

Payments should be made by credit cards.
VISA, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, and Union Pay are accepted.

Accepted applicants will receive an email with guidelines for payment after applications are closed.

8. Accommodations

Private dormitory (Single room / first-come, first-served basis)

Due to the limited number of dormitory rooms available, you might be arranged to move into an alternative apartment room without meals. KUFS will decide which room you will be staying.
Facilities Air conditioning, sink, refrigerator,
Shared Area: Automatic door locks, elevator, cafeteria, kitchen, laundromat, wired internet LAN connection
Furnishings Single bed, bed linens, desk, chair, shelf, curtains, light fixtures, wardrobe, toilet, and shower room

Please note that toilet paper, towels, and toiletries are not provided.

Facilities and furnishings may differ depending on the type of accommodation.


How to Apply

Application period

Please apply through the following website between Jan. 8 (Wed), 2020 - Mar. 10 (Tue), 2020.

Applications may be closed earlier if the number of applications reaches maximum capacity.

Application procedures

The application is completed when all the ①~③ is submitted.

    4cm x 3cm photograph size (full face without a hat against plain background). The photograph must be in color, and have been taken within 3 months of the application.

Useful Information

1. Transportation to and from Kyoto

Program participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Kyoto. KUFS is not responsible for any loss or additional expenses incurred due to delay or change in services due to illness, weather, transportation strikes, quarantine or other causes beyond the University's control.

School Location and Access

2. The Arrival Day (the first day of KJSE)

Please make arrangements to arrive at KUFS by 14:00.

Kansai International Airport to KUFS

The following services are recommended.

Door to door shuttle service
Limousine bus

* Drop off at major points or train stations only.

3. The Departure Day (the last day of KJSE)

You can leave your accommodation in the morning (leaving time will be announced later).

4. Visa

Program participants are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to arrival in Japan. For up-to-date Japan VISA information, please visit:

After we confirm your payment, we can issue a letter of admissions that is required for your VISA application upon request.
