The 40th All-Japan Student Portuguese Speech Contest was held at KUFS on Saturday, November 19th. A total of fifteen students from seven universities (including four KUFS students) across the country participated in the event, delivering passionate speeches on their self-chosen topics in front of five jurors including embassy personnel.
2nd-year student Yuto Koshimae of KUFS’ Faculty of Foreign Studies’ Department of Brazilian and Portuguese Studies spoke on the subject of “The Refugee Crisis and Japan: There’s Value in Diversity!” and won the hearts of jurors. He was the runner-up and was awarded the Chancellor of the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies Prize.
In addition, 3rd-year student Ayu Adachi of the same department ranked in 4th place with her speech “To Be Someone with Both Humility and Eagerness” and was awarded the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Kobe Award. Another second-year student Aoi Watanabe was awarded the Consul General of Brazil in Nagoya Special Award with her speech “The Hungry Spirit: Challenge Yourself to Achieve Your Dream”.
