A hands-on open campus event called “Weekday Campus Visit (WCV)” was held on July 15th (Monday, national holiday). 63 high school students participated in the program, jointly organized by KUFS and a non-profit organization called Newvery, aimed for high school students to discover their educational and career goals. It is a unique opportunity for prospective students to learn deeper about the university and its faculties by attending the same classes as the university’s current students and experience firsthand what a typical day at KUFS is like.
In the guidance session, the coordinator first explained the outline of the one-day program and instructed the high school students to write down their impressions of KUFS, such as its campus, environment, and current students. Then, they each selected two subjects of their choice from the syllabus to actually attend those classes that day.
In the reflection session afterwards, students shared their thoughts and opinions on the classes they took. They seemed to have had an insightful discussion by talking about how their impressions changed before and after they took the classes.
One senior high school student from Shizuoka Prefecture seemed to have gained a clearer image of college life: “I got to know firsthand what it feels like to be surrounded by many international students and how current students are leading their lives here. I would like to take this experience home to help me decide what path I would like to take in life.”
