In celebration of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), an altar is set on the 2nd floor of Building 4. The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd to remember and pay respects to those who have died, and to share the joy of living. Families and friends gather around altars which are set inside homes and neighborhoods to share their memories of their lost loved ones. In 2008, the holiday tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The altar set up at the Honorary Consulate of the United Mexican States in Kyoto, located on our campus, commemorates the renowned musician Armando Manzanero, who was also a friend of the KUFS community. He had passed away in December 2020 due to COVID-19. Come and experience the Mexican culture of celebrating death with joy rather than fear.
