The new Building 4 was awarded the Grand Prize of the 7th Kyoto Architecture Awards, as announced on Friday, May 31st. President Kazuko Akamatsu of Coelacanth and Associates, the architectural firm responsible for designing the building, was awarded a certificate during the ordinary general meeting held among the Kyoto Society of Architects & Building Engineers on Thursday, June 13th.

The Kyoto Architecture Awards is awarded to highly creative architectural works that are designed based on the historical context of Kyoto. The award is aimed to further promote the succession and development of Kyoto’s architecture by presenting its activities and accomplishments to the society at large.

The new Building 4 was built as a project to commemorate KUFS’s 70th anniversary and was completed in July 2017. The six-story building has been featured in architecture magazines such as Shinkenchiku and Nikkei Architecture as a well-designed piece of architecture that meets the needs of society.
