A certificate award ceremony was held on Wednesday, January 27th, in recognition of the efforts made by excellent Extensive Reading learners of this academic year. 57 students from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Faculty of Global Engagement were awarded this year. The ceremony was attended by 70 people including faculty members, congratulating the students’ daily efforts and accomplishment.
The ceremony included greetings by Professor Mami Yoshida, Chair of the Faculty of Foreign Languages’ Department of British and American Studies, Associate Professor Aaron Campbell, Chair of the Faculty of Global Engagement’s Department of Global Studies, Professor Jeff Berglund, Chair of the Department of Global Tourism, in addition to a commencement address by Mr. Paul Goldberg, the founder of Xreading.
An acceptance speech was presented by Saki Asano, second-year student of the Junior College and honorable mention recipient for reading 4,345,081 words, or 557 books, during this academic year (as of the end of Winter Break).
The ceremony was organized by a research group established for the purpose of promoting KUFS’s Extensive Reading program, and was supported and subsidized by KUFS.
