On Monday, March 15th, a ceremony was held for the presentation of an ink wash painting by Mao Jie (Class of 2020, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies Graduate School) to our University.
Mao began ink wash painting at the age of six. After graduating the Shandong Technology and Business University in China, she enrolled into our Graduate School in April 2019. While at KUFS, she was actively involved in teaching ink wash painting in events hosted by the Graduate School for local residents as well as KUFS students. Furthermore, Mao was awarded the Asahi Shimbun Award in the Osaka International Ink Wash Painting Exhibition in 2020, and is the first recipient of the 54th Kasai City Juried Art Exhibition’s Mayor’s Choice Award as a foreign national.
As Mao explained her painting to Dr. Yoshikazu Morita, Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors, he said, “This is an amazing gift. I encourage you to continue pursuing your passion and please remember that you’re always welcome to come visit us,” and awarded her a certificate of gratitude.
