On Sunday, December 8, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS) held its first full open campus event of the year, drawing approximately 750 high school students from around the nation.
During the opening program, President Takahiro Ono welcomed the visitors and provided a general introduction to the University. Next, professors and students from the Faculty of Foreign Studies, Faculty of Global Engagement, and Junior College assembled on stage to give one-minute introductions to each department, in which they highlighted the appeal of the department and provided mini-lectures.
In addition, a graduate student currently serving as pavilion director's secretary for the Brazil Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka delivered a passionate message via teleconferencing call to the high school students aspiring to study at KUFS.
The mini-lectures were hosted by individual departments, giving more than 550 participants the chance to experience firsthand the kind of learning provided by each department. During the ultra-popular "Touch the World" session, professors from various departments as well as students enjoyed juice and snacks as they met and talked with one another. The exchanges of differing cultures and languages enabled participants to experience for themselves the true spirit of the KUFS brand vision, "fostering a world where people love what is different."
Attendees commented on how friendly KUFS teachers and students were to them and otherwise expressed positive reactions to the people who make up the institution. They also praised the at-home atmosphere, giving positive feedback on the warm and friendly welcomes they received.
