On Saturday, February 11th, Professor Anna Ruggeri Takeshita of the Faculty of Foreign Studies’ Department of Italian Studies spoke in a symposium titled “The Worldly Dimension and Detachment: Zen and Other Religious Traditions Compared” which was held at the Oblate Library in Firenze, Italy, with invitation from Centro Zen Firenze and the Italian Buddhist Union. In her lecture, Professor Ruggeri Takeshita introduced Japan’s Rinzai school of Buddhism as well as the teachings of Hakuin Eikaku.
Other speakers included Professor Ikuko Sagiyama of Università degli Studi di Firenze and Mr. Aldo Tollini, former professor of Università Ca' Foscari Venezia. There were over 80 listeners in the audience, and many questions were asked in the end.
