On Monday, November 30th, His Excellency Mr. Miguel Ángel Ramírez Ramos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba, and Mrs. Ramírez paid a courtesy call on Dr. Yoshikazu Morita, Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors of KUFS. KUFS has concluded an agreement with the University of Havana in October 2017, and has welcomed their students in 2018 and 2019.

H.E. Mr. Ramírez was appointed ambassador to Japan in 2019. “I started my career as a diplomat, and the first country where I visited was Japan. Since then, it was my dream to be an ambassador to Japan. My duties so far have been limited due to the coronavirus pandemic, but when the time comes, I would like to do a lecture about a Cuban hero named José Julián Martí Pérez and share some current events in Cuba to do my part in contributing to the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies.”

Dr. Morita, who has personal connections to Cuba, said, “Our ties with Cuba are inseparable. I hope that we would continue our student exchanges and deepen our relationship.”

In reference to how the Olympic Games were scheduled to take place this year, H. E. Mr. Ramírez also mentioned how the Cuban national men’s judo team has visited KUFS for practice during Beijing 2008, and expressed his hopes to conduct cultural exchanges through sport. “We are searching for host cities and venues for martial arts and judo practices. It would be nice if we can do another exchange like that.”

After the meeting, H.E. Mr. Ramírez and Mrs. Ramírez visited The University Library. The courtesy call began and ended in a very friendly manner.
