On Thursday, October 29th, a delegation led by His Excellency Mr. Cristóbal Adalberto Herrera Dubón, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Guatemala, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Yoshikazu Morita, Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors of KUFS. Our university has concluded an agreement with Universidad Rafael Landivar in February 2015 and has sent an exchange student there in 2017.
In the meeting, Dr. Morita shared his views on student exchange. “Like the scholarships available for students from Mexico and Nicaragua, I hope that Guatemalan students who are interested in Japan and Asia would also have access to similar opportunities.” To which H.E. Mr. Herrera Dubón responded, “When such opportunities are realized, our government would be happy to recruit our best students to study here.”
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Guatemala in Kyoto located on our campus has been cooperating in hosting investment seminars for corporations in an effort to increase public recognition of Guatemala in Kyoto. H.E. Mr. Herrera Dubón shared his vision of how to strengthen ties between Kyoto and Guatemala. “I wish to deepen our relations through tourism by concluding a sister city partnership between Kyoto and Antigua Guatemala, a city designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I would like to gain the Honorary Consulate’s cooperation in this endeavor as well, and help us achieve this while I still serve as the Guatemalan ambassador to Japan.”
The meeting ended on a pleasant note as both parties agreed on cooperative efforts in the future.
