As you are aware, today marks the start of the spring semester and the beginning of face-to-face (f2f) teaching in classrooms and lecture rooms. However, in the event that one or more of these prefectures, namely Kyoto Prefecture, Osaka Prefecture, Hyogo Prefecture, Shiga Prefecture and/or Nara Prefecture, become subject to a declaration of a State of Emergency, as established in the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols for Kyoto University of Foreign Studies and Kyoto Junior College of Foreign Languages (updated on December 24, 2020), this would raise the alert level from Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution) to Level 3 (Heightened Precautions) and as such, the following measures would apply.
These measures shall apply during the period of the State of Emergency and notification of the duration of this period shall be clarified as soon as it becomes firm.
All courses will switch to remote lessons.
(1) What happens to f2f classes?
We ask teachers to conduct all their classes online, and to use Microsoft Teams to teach their classes in real-time as per the class schedule. For students that have already applied not to attend f2f classes, please contact the teacher in charge of that course to check on any changes due to the switch to online teaching for all students.
(2) What about On-Demand/Video classes?
As a rule, on-demand and video classes will continue. However, if the teacher in charge of that course decides it is appropriate to do so, these classes may be switched to real-time online classes taught to a schedule.
2．Students on Campus
Should a student wish to take remote lessons on campus, he/she will be allowed access to the campus. (No application is required). The student also needs to bring his/her own networked device (laptop, tablet, etc.) to said class. We ask student to use earphones with a microphone function, as this will prevent acoustic feedback. However, when taking a synchronous remote lesson, he/she should take the lesson in the designated f2f classroom at the assigned time as per the class schedule. For on-demand or video classes, he/she may attend these classes in any available rooms or freely-usable spaces in either Building #1 or Building #4.
Extra-curricular activities will be suspended until further notice.
