On Tuesday, April 9th, 137 new students of the Department of Global Tourism, Faculty of Global Engagement, conducted their first fieldwork at Fushimi Inari Taisha, a World Heritage Site. Divided into 14 groups, the students interviewed foreign tourists in English for three hours since 1PM, asking them their reasons for visiting and impressions on the shrine. The students commented, “Although I was nervous at first, I gained confidence once I knew that they could understand my English,” and “I should have known more about the Fushimi Inari shrine beforehand.” On a warm and pleasant 16℃ afternoon, the new students seemed to have increased their motivation to learn as they faced tourists from all over the world.
