Four students from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies taking the Department of Global Tourism, Faculty of Global Engagement third-year seminar taught by Associate Professor Hisashi Masuda were successfully chosen as participants in the Matching HUB - Business Idea and Plan Competition 2025 (M-BIP 2025), which is part of the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) "Matching HUB Hokuriku" event for students held as a collaboration between industry, academia, government and the financial world. During M-BIP 2025, they gave a poster presentation based on their project theme, "Fan Pilgrimages: Measures in Support of Shinto Shrine Management Revitalization."
Through fan-type support activities to encourage shrine visits, the students proposed the idea of wearing "fan colors" for each shrine or deity and making Shinto talismans using wood-scented lace. During the event, the students talked with other participants and representatives from area shrines to exchange opinions and ideas.
