An interview with Professor Hiroshi Minami of the Faculty of Global Engagement’s Department of Global Tourism, who is also the KUFS’s Director of University Museum of Cultures, was published in Kyoto Shimbun’s morning paper on Thursday, September 23rd (National Holiday).
The interview focuses on the “Official Guide to the University Museum of Cultures” which was issued in 2017 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the University’s founding. The guidebook features past exhibitions and cooperative projects with external parties since the establishment of the Museum, and also introduces the Museum’s collection which mainly consists of articles related to Latin America and the Islamic world. It also highlights a catalog on the unique world of contemporary artist Shinobu Tobita.
Director Minami commented, “The role of the museum is not only to protect and exhibit these items but also to catalog them. Lifespans of cultural assets are longer than a person’s life. As the acting Director, I am determined to fulfill my responsibility until my successor takes over some day.” The University Museum of Cultures will continue to work on projects that hopefully appears like a life’s compass for KUFS students.
