On Wednesday, November 6th, Professor Ikunori Sumida of the Department of Brazilian and Portuguese Studies appeared on a live radio show called “Sarapin! Kyoto” by KBS Kyoto.
On the show, Professor Sumida introduced himself as well as the little-known history and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries. Dozens of e-mails and faxes have been sent to the show from the audience, with questions and requests such as “what are some Japanese words that originated from the Portuguese language” and “could you talk about the late F1 racing driver, Ayrton Senna.” The three-hour talk with radio show host Mr. Takeo Moritani lit the studio with amusement with their light and witty discussion.
