Dr. Maria Miyoshi, lecturer of the Department of Russian Studies (newly established this April), made an appearance on the KBS Kyoto radio show “Sarapin! Kyoto” on Wednesday, July 8th.
The show is a 3-hour live radio talk show that focuses on Kyoto’s current trends. The show is hosted by a popular radio personality of KBS Kyoto, and invites guests from a variety of professions who are actively working in the ancient city.
As the show’s guest for the month of July, Dr. Miyoshi will be on the show for a total of four times. On her first day, the 8th, she spoke about the history, culture, and the current state of affairs in her home country, the Republic of Belarus. She also shared about what inspired her to start learning Japanese. In addition, radio show host Mr. Takeo Moritani also displayed his knowledge of the Russian language that he learned as a student. As he said “Это не мама (She is not my mother)” thinking that he has just said “She is my mother,” the studio was filled with laughter as Dr. Miyoshi pointed out that he has memorized it the opposite way. The show also played several Russian hit songs, providing listeners with a bit of knowledge about Russian culture.
Belarus is a country with a population of about 9.5 million and is located to the west of Russia.
