The “Awara Photo Spot ‘Awara Roman-kan’”, a project by five student volunteers of the Faculty of Global Engagement’s Department of Global Tourism that created a photogenic photo shoot set-up in the onsen hot spring town of Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, was featured on the Chunichi Shimbun website on Wednesday, January 29th, and Page 25 of Kyoto Shimbun’s morning paper on Thursday, January 30th.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Faculty of Global Engagement’s Department of Global Tourism has been conducting onsite research in ryokan inns and tourist attractions in Awara City as fieldwork for first-year students. Taisei Cho, a first-year student participating in the project since last June, presented the idea of creating photogenic spots for the purpose of “boosting the onsen town” to the city’s tourism association.

Cho is determined to expand on the project, commenting, “I’d like to create more places that catch people’s attention, gather more people, and host exciting events.”
