The University Museum Association of Kyoto, which the KUFS University Museum of Cultures is a part of, has recently released a digital catalog of its joint exhibition.
Established in 2011, the University Museum Association of Kyoto is constituted by 14 museums from 14 universities. Over the years, the organization has held its collaborative exhibition “Universities are full of treasures!” in Kyoto, Sendai, Fukuoka, Okinawa and Taipei. A joint exhibition on “Sports and Kyoto” was scheduled this academic year with the cooperation of the University of Tsukuba—however, like so many other events, it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Thus, the association has put together a digital catalog that showcases the universities’ wonderful collections for the public to enjoy during these extraordinary times. It includes the KUFS University Museum of Cultures’ images of a rubber ball (replica) from the Olmec civilization of ancient Mexico, Brazilian instruments called berimbau and caxixi that are used in capoeira—the traditional martial art that combines music and dance—and photo panels that capture capoeira.
The digital catalogue may be viewed online for free until Thursday, March 25th. Please take this opportunity to browse through the valuable collections of each university.
