On Tuesday, November 3rd, Dr. Kosuke Kunishi of the Faculty of Foreign Studies’ Department of Italian Studies won the 4th Atsuko Suga Translation Award for translating Giacomo Leopardi’s Pensieri, published as one of Genkishobou’s série Reliure in April 2020.
The Atsuko Suga Translation Award was founded in 1988, and newly established in 2014 to supersede the Pico della Mirandola Award which was discontinued in 2007. The award is aimed to recognize skillfully translated Japanese versions of Italian writing for the purpose of introducing them widely to the public. It is held every other year.
Dr. Kunishi joyfully comments, “To be awarded such a prestigious prize is a dream come true. I would be very happy if my work helps attract a wider Japanese audience into the world of Leopardi, one of Italy’s most beloved authors.”
