On Thursday, June 27, Associate Provost for Global Learning and International Affairs John Sunnygard from the United States' Western Kentucky University (WKU) visited Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS) and attended a friendly gathering with President Takahiro Ono and others.

Professor Hajime Nozawa (Chair, Department of British and American Studies, Faculty of Foreign Studies), Professor David Taylor (Chair, Department of Global Studies, Faculty of Global Engagement), Professor Atsuhito Kurozumi (Chair, Division of International Affairs) and others were in attendance. All present engaged in lively discussion on the development of practical-learning exchange programs with the potential to lead to direct career cultivation for students at both universities.

They also reflected on the ties between their two universities, noting that one KUFS graduate formerly taught by President Ono has served for many years now as an instructor at WKU. It was also mentioned that the Study Abroad Foundation (SAF), which is headquartered in Chicago, has its Kansai Office on the KUFS campus, which was a pleasant and nostalgic surprise for Mr. Sunnygard who occupied an executive position at IES Abroad (SAF's parent organization) for many years. The gathering proved to be pleasant and rewarding for those involved, with all parties expressing upon its conclusion their hopes for continued dialogue and strengthened collaboration moving forward.
