On Friday, June 19th, the AY 2020 Grant-type Scholarship Award Ceremony for International Students supported by the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies Alumni Association was held online.
One student from the Japanese Studies Center for International Students was selected as a recipient this academic year. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the ceremony became the University’s first attempt at conducting it online. Chairperson Naomi Shimatani of the Alumni Association read the certificate, and as she went through the motions of handing the certificate to the camera, awardee Thi Phuoc Duyen Phan responded with a bow.
Duyen plans to extend her study abroad period and learn Japanese for an additional year. “I wish to be a translator in the future and be a cultural bridge between Japan and my home country, Vietnam,” she said, with gratitude.
The remote ceremony was conducted without any trouble, and in a warm, congratulatory mood, social exchanges were held between the recipient and the members involved.
