On page 21 of Kyoto Shimbun’s morning paper issued on March 24th, an accessory brand called “sampai” currently run by Manami Miyatake, who just graduated the Department of Global Studies this March, was featured.
"sampai" is an accessory line launched by mostly Global Studies students that upcycles industrial waste produced by the traditional crafts and apparel industries. The brand collects industrial waste and aims to reduce waste as well as to encourage the young generation to rethink about mass consumption.
Miyatake comments, “Upcycling, which is about the creative reuse of waste or unwanted materials into new products with greater quality, is garnering attention among young people. I hope to make everyday items that raise awareness about the traditional crafts industry.”
