英米語学科　ブライアン・バックマン先生からの授業レポートです！

As part of the English for Study Abroad course, students had the opportunity to attend a special guest lecture by Katsura Fukuryu, a professional rakugo storyteller who performs in both Japanese and English.

Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Fukuryu-san has lived and worked across Japan for over 20 years. He has performed for the Japanese government in rural schools throughout Japan. Most recently, he worked with the Osaka Prefectural Government as a coach and judge for the Expo 2025 English-language Manzai competition.

During the lecture, Fukuryu-san introduced students to the art of rakugo and demonstrated how traditional Japanese stories can be shared with international audiences through English. Students enjoyed a live performance and afterward had the opportunity to ask questions about storytelling, language, and cultural exchange.

「留学のための英語」の授業の一環として、学生たちは、日本語と英語の両方で落語を披露するプロの落語家、桂福龍氏による特別ゲスト講演を聴講する機会を得ました。

カナダのウィニペグ出身である福龍氏は、20年以上にわたり日本各地で生活し、活動してきました。彼は日本政府の依頼を受け、全国各地の地方の学校で落語を披露してきました。最近では、大阪府の「2025年万博英語漫才コンテスト」において、コーチ兼審査員を務めました。

講演では、福龍さんが落語という芸術を紹介し、日本の伝統的な物語を英語を通じて海外の聴衆にどう伝えるかを実演しました。学生たちは生のパフォーマンスを楽しみ、その後、物語の語り口、言語、文化交流について質問する機会を持ちました。
