This work in five volumes is a version, with the preface and postscript omitted, of the A-Boku shinwa compiled by Confucian minister Bunzo Maekawa and describing the shipwreck and subsequent return to Nagasaki in 1845 via California and China of Hatsutaro, a peasant from Awa who was a member of the crew led by Zensuke Inoue, whose experiences are described in Hyoryunin Zensuke kikigaki. Taro Kawano remarks that "the work has major errors and omissions, and the woodblock illustrations are far removed from the original drawings." (Taro Kawano, Hatsutaro hyoryuki).
　　In addition to the account of the shipwreck and subsequent experiences, information is given on Spanish language and clothing, weddings and other customs etc. in contemporary America (California at the time of the shipwreck was Mexican territory), with illustrations.
