■ Explanation
At the turn of the century, when approximately 20 years had passed since the publication of the Japanese Faily Tale Series of "chirimen-bon," Hasegawa Kobunsha began to make calenders in the "chirimen-bon" style. These calenders usually had illustrations depicting the seasonal changes and festivals. Through them, foreigners learned about Japan's four seasons and got a taste of the delicate esthetics of its people. |
