3. Application qualification

Those who have non-Japanese nationality to whom one of (1) or (2) applies and who also meet (3) and (4).

  1. Those who have completed twelve years of education at a school outside of Japan and those who expect to complete their education by March 2019, who are qualified to enroll in university in the country and who will reach 18 years of age by March 31, 2019.
  2. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding (1) above.
  3. Those who are living outside of Japan.
  4. Those who have taken one of the following examinations
    1. Japanese Section (Including Writing) of the "Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students" (Exam conducted in June or Nov. 2018 or June of Nov. 2019)
    2. Japanese Language Proficienct Test Level N1 (Exam conducted in July or Dec. 2018 or July 2019)
    3. A test like those in 1) or 2) which has been recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies

  1. Those who have completed twelve years of education at a school outside of Japan or who expect to complete their education by March 2020, who are qualified to enroll in university in the country and who will reach 18 years of age by March 31, 2020.
  2. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding (1) above.
  3. Those who are living outside of Japan.
  4. Those who meet the following standards prior to the application period, for examinations held from April, 2018, and who can provide credentials proving this

    • Either a score of 650 in TOEIC (L&R), 1390 in TOEIC 4 Skills, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 5.0 in IELTS
    [Department of Global Tourism]
    • Have taken one of the following examinations TOEIC (L&R), TOEIC 4 Skills, TOEFL iBT, or IELTS
    • A score of 60% or higher in "Japanese" and "Japan and the World" courses of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, or Japanese Language Proficiency Test N2 Level
  5. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding item (4).

4. Screening process

Comprehensive admission decision based on the essay, the title of which applicants are given in advance, the results of the Japanese Section (including writing) of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students or Japanese Language Proficienct Test Level N1, and the other application documents submitted.
Faculty of Global Engagement Comprehensive admission decision based on essay (in English for the Department of Global Studies, Japanese for the Department of Global Tourism) assigned in advance; "Japanese" and "Japan and the World" sections of the "Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students," and "Japanese Language Proficiency Test" results; and "TOEIC" or other examination results (excluding native English speakers) and other submitted documents.

Steps to Admission

Application

Applicants

  1. 1Check the "Documents to be Submitted".
  2. 2Online registration: Create your "My Account" through "Internet Application System".
    My Account can be registered as early as 10 days prior to the first day of applications.
  3. 3Apply through "Internet Application System".
  4. 4Send the documents by post. [ Under no circumstances will applications be accepted after the deadline ]
  5. 5Make a payment of Application Fee (¥20,000) through "Internet Application System".

* Applicants will receive an email from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies when the necessary data entries are completed and the fee is paid. Make sure your email setting accepts messages sent from the "kufs.ac.jp".

  1. Spring term tuition and proxy collection fees are paid during the admission process. Autumn term tuition is paid in late Sept. 2020. (Notification sent out in early Sept. 2020)
  2. Tuition and proxy collection fees from second year on
    1. From the second year on, students pay tuition (except for admission fees) and proxy collection fees (except for admission fees).
      Annual course fees for the Faculty of Global Engagement will increase by ¥35,000 JPY per semester from the third semester on.
    2. The amount for course fees and education enhancement fees from the second year on may change according to fluctuations in the economic climate.
    3. Campus promotion cooperation fees, graduation album fees, and alumni association membership fees/lifetime member fees are collected during the graduation school year.

Admission Fee Exemption System

International students of especially high scholastic ability may be exempt from paying admission fees (an equivalent amount is returned after admission). This applies to those who meet the following standards at the time of application.
