3. Application qualification

«Program A»

Those who have non-Japanese nationality and who are residing in Japan, and for whom either (1) or (2) below applies

  1. Those who have completed twelve years of education at a school in or outside of Japan or who expect to complete their education by March 2020, who are qualified to enroll in Kyoto University of Foreign Studies and who will reach 18 years of age by March 31, 2020. However, the total amount of time spent at elementary, junior high or senior high school in Japan must be 6 years or less.
  2. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding (1) above

«Program B / Program C»

Those who have non-Japanese nationality and are residing in Japan, for whom either (1) or (2) below applies, and who meet (3)

  1. Those who have completed twelve years of education at a school in or outside of Japan or who expect to complete their education by March 2020, who are qualified to enroll in Kyoto University of Foreign Studies and who will reach 18 years of age by March 31, 2020. However, the total amount of time spent at elementary, junior high or senior high school in Japan must be 6 years or less.
  2. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding (1) above
  3. Those who have taken one of the following examinations
    1. Japanese section (including Writing) of the "Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students" (Exam conducted in June or Nov. 2019)
    2. "Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1" (Exam conducted in July or Dec. 2019)

Those who have non-Japanese nationality, for whom either (1) or (2) below applies, and who meet (3) or (4)

  1. Those who have completed twelve years of education at a school in or outside of Japan or who expect to complete their education by March 2020, who are qualified to enroll in university in the said country and who will reach 18 years of age by March 31, 2020. However, the total amount of time spent at elementary, junior high or senior high school in Japan must be 6 years or less.
  2. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding (1) above
  3. Those who have taken one of the following exams since April 2018 and who will receive the results certificate before the start of application period and who meet the requirements below.

      1. Those who have taken one of the following exams: TOEIC、TOEFL、IELTS、Eiken、GTEC、TEAP
      2. Those who have taken the 'Japanese' (not including Writing) and ‘Japan and the World’ sections of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students and scored 240 points (out of a maximum of 400 points) or more in 'Japanese' and 120 points (out of a maximum of 200 points) or more in 'Japan and the World', or those whose Japanese ability is of a level that would enable a pass at N2 Level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
    • Applicants whose mother tongue is English
      Those who have Japanese ability at the same level as detailed in 2) above
  4. Those who are recognized by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies as having qualifications equivalent to or exceeding those in (3) above.

  1. Spring term tuition and proxy collection fees are paid during the admission process. Autumn term tuition is paid in late Sept. 2020. (Notification sent out in early Sept. 2020)
  2. Tuition and proxy collection fees from second year on
    1. From the second year on, students pay tuition (except for admission fees) and proxy collection fees (except for admission fees).
      Annual course fees for the Faculty of Global Engagement will increase by ¥35,000 JPY per semester from the third semester on.
    2. The amount for course fees and education enhancement fees from the second year on may change according to fluctuations in the economic climate.
    3. Campus promotion cooperation fees, graduation album fees, and alumni association membership fees/lifetime member fees are collected during the graduation school year.

Admission Fee Exemption System

International students of especially high scholastic ability may be exempt from paying admission fees (an equivalent amount is returned after admission). This applies to those who meet the following standards at the time of application.
