Nipponalia Collection List

This is a collection of material in European languages, relating to Japanese studies. The works span a wide historical spectrum: at the older end are the manuscript letters of the Azuchi-Momoyama period Jesuit missionary Luis Frois, while nearer to the present, there is the magnum opus Nippon, Archiv zur Beschreibung von Japan und dessen Neben- und Schutzländen) by Philipp Franz Jonkheer Balthasar van Siebold, a German who came to live in Japan in the Edo period. The fruits of modern research in Japanology are also plentifully represented. This is indeed a treasure-trove of studies on Japan and the Japanese seen through Western European eyes.
