Wenceslau de Moraes

This is a collection of studies of and works by Wenceslau de Moraes (1854-1929), who came to Japan in the middle of the Meiji period and became the Portuguese Consul General at Kobe and Osaka. The works include Dai-Nippon, published in Lisbon in 1897, and Oyoné e Ko-Haru, based on his life in Japan. There is also other important material, in the form of manuscript letters and postcards sent to Macao from Tokushima and Kobe, shedding light on the nature of the man himself.
