増訂華英通語

福澤諭吉訳　『増訂華英通語 (Zotei Ka-Ei tsugo)』
万延1年 (1860)

　 本書は､ 福澤諭吉が幕府遣米使節に随行した時､ サンフランシスコ在住の清の商人仲夏より譲り受けた清の子卿原著 『華英通語』 に和訳を加え翻刻した初刷の2冊本を1冊にまとめた再刷本である｡
　 英単語を細かく46類に分類し､ 枠ごとに筆記体で単語を挙げ､ その上に片仮名で､ 下に漢字で音注を示し､ 右側に中国訳と片仮名で和訳が示されている｡ 片仮名の音注と和訳が福澤諭吉による増補の部分である。

　　This is a reprint in one volume of a two-volume edition of the Ka-Ei tsu＾go, by Zi Qing of China, to which Fukuzawa added Japanese translations. The work was obtained by Fukuzawa from a Chinese merchant named Zhong Xia in San Francisco, which he visited as a member of the shogunate mission to America.
　　English words are categorized under 46 headings, with each box containing the English word in a hand-written style, a katakana transliteration above it and a kanji transliteration below, with Chinese and Japanese (in katakana) translations on the right. The katakana transliterations and translations are added by Fukuzawa.
