ゼミの運営方針、テーマ

Students will work on several levels toward their graduation thesis, that is, refining general skills as well as constantly working toward the ultimate goal of turning in a well-written and well-researched thesis near the end of their senior year at university. The course will focus on the skills needed to produce a high quality final product, primarily researching, organizing and writing the thesis.

Researching covers finding material for the thesis, including using library resources and internet resources to locate both print and online sources, and original sources such as surveys and interviews.

Organizing includes refining and narrowing a topic, preparing a working outline and planning the steps to writing the final paper.

Writing skills include formal academic writing, using citations, using a standard format, such as MLA or APA, polishing and editing for content and language.

A review of computer skills, such as searching terms will be included. Also, word processing skills will be reviewed or taught as needed in this class.
The teacher will give guidance, assistance with English and writing, and advise students about resources for information related to their topics of interest. However, students will conduct their own independent research.

Students will also have an opportunity to present their work for peer support and critique, as well as the instructor's guidance.
