On Friday, June 7th, Mr. Morihisa Matsudaira, the 14th head of the Aizu-Matsudaira clan and adviser to KUFS’s Office of Public Relations, held a public lecture titled “The Aizu clan and Kyoto in the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate” at Room 452 on the 5th floor of Building 4. To an audience of approximately fifty people, Mr. Matsudaira gave an overview of the Aizu domain and introduced the Aizu-born samurai Yamamoto Kakuma, who contributed to the growth of Kyoto after the Meiji Restoration. “Although there is a distance between Aizu and Kyoto, both geographically and culturally, it’s touching to learn that these two separate regions are actually deeply connected,” concluded Mr. Matsudaira.
