On Wednesday, April 17th, a delegation from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) including Datin Dr. Anita B Z Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor and President, Dr. Abby Tan Chee Hong, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research, and Dr. Mahani Haji Hamdan, Director of Institute of Policy Studies, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Yoshikazu Morita, Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors
.
An international exchange agreement between KUFS and UBD has been concluded in 2014, and 2 UBD students are studying at our Japanese Studies Center for International Students this academic year. UBD has established a joint campus in Vietnam with FPT University, of which KUFS has received many international students from. The delegation spoke of how there are nearly 3,000 students studying at the joint campus.

“Among the foreign language courses offered at UBD, Japanese and Korean are the most popular. I look forward to having more of our students take advantage of this mutual exchange between our universities,” said Dr. Aziz, and promised to encourage more student exchanges in the future.

“Brunei is a beautiful country with a lot of nature,” commented Dr. Morita, as he recalled his visit 5 years ago. “Is your university a member of the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN)?” he asked, since KUFS has been a venue for the network’s international conference in the past, concluding the meeting on a harmonious note.

Then, the delegation visited Building 4 and the University Library’s rare books room and seemed impressed by the extraordinary collection. Furthermore, a discussion was held between Professor Jay Klaphake of Department of Global Studies, Faculty of Global Engagement, regarding a possible joint research project, and the delegation seemed interested in conducting a TEDx event and the Heritage Tourism Research Program (HTRP) by the Department of Global Studies.
