みなさんこんにちは！グローバル観光学科２年次生の中川理子です。私が所属しているフラダンス部「Liko Lehua（リコレフア）」は今年8月26日、27日に横浜関内ホールで行われたCollege Hula Competition2022というフラダンスの大会に参加し、団体部門で4位入賞、ソロ部門では優勝をいただくことができました。College Hula Competitionとは日本初の学生Hulaコンペティションです。今日は、その大会当日と大会までの練習や合宿で私が感じたことを記事にしたいと思います。
26日に行われたソロ部門で優勝しミスカレッジフラとなったのは、外国語学部スペイン語回学科4年次生の松村洋美さんです。洋美さんの今年のソロ曲のテーマは「大好きなLiko Lehuaのみんなへ愛を伝える」でした。洋美さんの本番の踊りを見て私たちに対する洋美さんの愛が踊りを通し伝わって部員一同涙しました。洋美さんの目標に向かって頑張り、困難にぶつかっても決して諦めず乗り越える、かっこいい姿をずっとそばで見てきた私たちにとって、結果発表の瞬間はまるで自分のことかのように感動したことを覚えています。この洋美さんの舞台を直接見ることができ、この踊りの一部に少しでも私たちが関われたことを誇りに思っています。
次に２７日に行われた団体部門では４位という結果を残すことが出来ました。Liko Lehua創設以来初の団体部門での入賞となりました。この結果に私含め部員や講師の方も本当に言葉に出来ないほどうれしい気持ちです。しかし、この素晴らしい結果までの道のりはすごく大変でした。練習する中で、何回心が折れたか数えきれません。大会メンバーは１～４回生それぞれの人数も性格も違うため、何日にも渡る合宿は本当に大丈夫なのだろうか、このフラばかりの日々に自分がついていくことができるのか本当に不安でした。その中での私の救いはみんなのやさしさと明るさでした。この夏だけでみんなとどれだけ笑って泣いたか数えきれません。一緒に過ごす中でみんなのやさしさに触れて何度も心を救われました。
そして大会当日。合宿で練習を頑張ったために「失敗せずにできるかな？」など本番へのプレッシャーと不安で押しつぶされそうになりました。その時講師のLisaさんの「みんなは本当にきれいだよ！みんな本当に愛してるよ！」という言葉に本当に自信が湧いて、舞台に臨むことが出来ました。踊っているときに袖で見えるLisaさんの姿やエールによって、不安が一気に飛んでいき、自然と笑顔になりました。終わった時の達成感は本当に人生で味わったことのない感覚でみんなと抱き合ったことを覚えています。
フラダンスに打ち込んだこの夏を通して私は、みんなの支えがこんなにも大切で温かいものだと再確認できました。そして、みんなのことが私にとってかけがえのない宝物になったと改めて感じることができました。最後に、同回生や先輩・後輩のみんな、そして講師のLisaさんをはじめとする私たちLiko Lehuaに関わってくださったすべての人に感謝を伝えたいです。

My Summer of Hula with Liko Lehua
Hello! My name is Riko Nakagawa, and I am a sophomore at the Department of Global Tourism Studies. My hula dance club Liko Lehua participated in the College Hula Competition 2022 held in Yokohama in August. I'd like to write an article about my thoughts during the training camp, the days prior to the tournament and the day of the events.
Our hula dance club participated in the University Hula Contest 2022 held at Yokohama Kannai Hall on August 26th and 27th. The competition is Japan's first and only student hula competition. We finished fourth in the group category and were able to win the solo category.
In the solo category held on the 26th, Hiromi Matsumura, a fourth-grade Spanish language student at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, won the championship and won the title of Miss College Hula. The theme of Hiromi's solo performance this year was Sending Love to All My Favorite Liko Lehua. Seeing Hiromi dance, her love for us was conveyed through her performance, and all the members of the club shed tears.
For those of us who have been watching Hiromi work towards her goal, and those of us who have never given up and overcome difficulties on the way to the event, the moment the results were announced was something we will remember forever. We are proud to be able to witness Hiromi's performance in person and participate in this dance.
The next day, our club was able to finish fourth in the group category. We were able to win a prize in this category for the first time since the establishment of Liko Lehua. I was so happy, along with my fellow members and instructors, that I find it hard to put it into words.
However, the road to this wonderful result was very difficult. I can’t count how many times my heart broke during practice. Some club members were worried about whether our training camp, held over many days, would be okay because the number and personality of each of the 1st and 4th graders was so different, and whether I could keep up with these days of hula practice. My salvation was everyone's kindness and cheerfulness. I can't count how much I laughed and cried with everyone this summer.
I was saved many times by everyone's kindness while we were together. On the day of the tournament, even though I practiced hard at training camp, I was almost overwhelmed by pressure and anxiety about the actual performance. At that time, our instructor Lisa said, "Everyone is so beautiful!" and “I love you all so much!" It gave me confidence and I was able to perform on stage. Lisa's words of support that I could see on my sleeve while dancing made me smile naturally. The sense of accomplishment at the end was something I had never experienced in my life, and I remember hugging everyone.
Throughout this summer, I was able to grow thanks to everyone's support, which was so precious and warm. My fellow club members have become an irreplaceable treasure. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to all the students, seniors and juniors, and to everyone involved in Liko Lehua, including our instructor Lisa. Mahalo!!!
