こんにちは！グローバル観光学科２年次生の橋本永爾です。気候もだんだんと暖かくなってきて春が少しずつ近づいている気配がしますね。今回は、これから私が展開を予定しているシリーズ企画「街道を行く」の記念すべき一回目になります。ということで、まず街道とは何かを簡単に説明します。街道とは、中央と地方、また町と町を結ぶ行政上、交通上の主要な道路のことを指します。私の地元である大阪にある街道の一つ、暗超奈良街道を歩いてきたのでレポートします。

私がこの街道シリーズを始めようと思ったきっかけは、休日に家族と共に大阪城へ自転車で行った時のことです。暗超奈良街道の碑文がある場所で、父が「この道は奈良まで続いている。そして街道は物流であり物流は人類の発展の要だ」と説明してくれました。この出来事をきっかけに街道について調べてみたいと思うようになりました。

暗超奈良街道は、「くらがりごえならかいどう」と読み、大阪城付近にある高麗橋から生駒山地の暗峠を超え奈良の三条通へと続く道です。そして暗峠は酷道として有名です。この街道ができた時期は分かっていませんが、初代天皇の神武天皇が通った神路だといわれています。また、奈良時代にシルクロードの最東端として整備された道とされています。大阪と大和をほぼ一直線で結ぶ最短コースであったため、要人をはじめとしたさまざまな人びとがこの街道を使ったといいます。

私はこの街道の高麗橋から歩き始めたのですが、体力が途中で持たなくなり、今里筋付近でギブアップとなりました。昔の人々は春日大宮へ参拝や平城京へ向かう人々が奈良に向かうときにこの道を数日かけて歩いたとされていますが、あっぱれだなと思いました。私はたった約5.5キロメートル歩いただけなので、当時の人に比べるとたいしたことない距離しか歩けませんでした。

暗超奈良街道は道沿いに添付の画像のようなマークがありどの道が街道なのかを見分ける目印になっていました。しかし、所々でこの目印がなくなってしまうのでこの目印を頼りに歩こうと思っている方は注意が必要です。

街道を歩いていると、玉造付近で商店街が見えてきました。その名前を玉造駅東商店会と云います。私はこの商店街でよさそうな喫茶店があったら入ってみようと思い、周りを見ながら歩いてみたのですが、結局よさそうな喫茶店は見つからず、休憩はせず、この商店街は通り過ぎることにしました。新型コロナウイルスの影響かどうかはわかりませんが、シャッターを下ろしている店がちょくちょくあり、少し寂しいなと思いながら歩いていました。

玉造の商店街を抜け、少し歩くと今里筋との交差点に差し掛かります。その交差点を抜けるとすぐ暗超奈良街道に関することが書かれている碑文のようなものが見えてきます。その碑文には暗超奈良街道の概要やちょっとした歴史の小ネタのようなものも書いてあり、歴史が好きな私にとってたいへん勉強になりました。碑文を通り抜け大今里あたりに来ると、街道沿いの町並みが当時の街道の雰囲気が残っていました。

Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome and thank you for reading my blog Kaidou-wo-yuku vol.1. My name is Eiji Hashimoto, and I am a junior. Climate change seems to be causing spring to come earlier and earlier each year.

This time, as the first entry in my series Kaidou-wo-yuku, I walked the Kuragarigoenara-kaidou one of my hometown Osaka highways.　The reason why I decide to begin this series here was due to a holiday visit to Osaka Castle with my family by bicycle. At the inscription of Kuragarigoenara-kaidou, my father told me “This highway continues to Nara, and the highway represents logistics. Logistics is key to human development.”

Before telling you about the Kuragarigoenara-kaidou, let me first explain what a kaidou is, because I think only a few people know. The kaidou were the major administrative and transportation roads that connect urban and rural areas, and also towns with other towns. The Kuragarigoenara-kaidou connects Sanjyo-street in Nara Prefecture to the Kourai-bridge near Osaka-castle. The Kuragari-touge is a famous road with steep sections. It is not known when this highway was created, but it is said that the very first emperor of Japan Jinmu-tennou passed through this highway. It is said to have been constructed during the Nara period (6th century) as the easternmost point of the Silk Road. This highway was walked by various people including VIPs because it was the shortest course connecting Osaka and the Yamato plain (where Nara is situated) in a straight line.

I walked this highway from the Kourai-bridge, but I gave up in Imazato because of my lack of physical fitness. I think people used to walk this highway for several days to worship in Nara and I think their fitness is awesome! I only walked about 5.5 kilometers.

The Kuragarigoenara-kaidou has a motif like the image on the right along the highway. However, this mark disappears some places, so if you want to walk the whole highway, you should be careful not to get lost.

When I was walking, I came across a shopping arcade: the Tamatsukuri Station East-Shoutengai. I thought “if there is a nice café, let’s rest there!”I don’t know if it’s due to the COVID-19, but there are a lot of shops with their shutters down, so I was walking while thinking it was a little sad. There was no nice café, so I didn’t rest and just walked through this arcade. After the arcade, the highway intersects with Imazato-suji. As soon as I passed through the intersection, I saw an inscription about the Kuragarigoenara-kaidou, with an overview and history of the highway. This was a learning experience for me. Then I came to Oimazato, which has a really retro feel. This time I wrote about my experiences up to Imazato on the Kuragarigoenara-kaidou. Next time, I will go east and write about the Kuragari-touge. Looking forward to next time!
