皆さんこんにちは！グローバル観光学科１年次生の中川理子です。今回は私が所属しているフラダンス部「Liko Lehua」を通して私がこの１年感じたことについて記事にしたいと思います。現在１年次生５名、２年次生３名、3年次生2名で活動しています。月曜日と水曜日の放課後練習と金曜日のお昼休みに活動しています。放課後練習は主に、本学卒業生でもあり部の創設者でもある増田理紗さんに指導していただいて、お昼練習は自主練習を行っています。

Liko Lehuaでは個性豊かなメンバーで日々楽しくも厳しくメリハリを持って練習しています。しかし、私が入部した2021の春はコロナの影響によりほとんどがzoom練習でした。１年次生はメンバーの顔もzoom越しにしかまだ見たことがないという状態が続き、練習も画面越しでは苦労する部分が多かったです。春学期の後半に初めてメンバーと対面したときは画面越しにいつも見ていた人が目の前にいるという不思議な感覚になりました。対面練習はやはりzoom練習に比べてわかりやすいし、とてもやりがいを感じました。

１２月には３年次生は引退公演、１年次生にとっては初めての舞台となるHō‘ike(発表会)を行いました。初めての舞台に向けて部員全員空き時間を利用して練習し、新しい曲を覚えるなど忙しい日々が続きました。Hō‘ike前日にリハーサルしていた時に、３年次生の踊りを見ていると本当に明日で３年次生と踊れるのが最後なのだと実感しました。まだリハーサルなのに１、２年次生みんな涙を必死に抑えていました。そして本番を迎えた当日が来ました。舞台に上がってお客さんがいる状態で踊ることは初めてでしたが、始めこそ緊張したものの踊っているうちに段々と途中から踊りを楽しむことが出来ました。

実際とても緊張しましたが、同時に楽しくフラダンス部に入部して本当に良かったと感じることが出来た瞬間でした。３年次生が踊っている姿は綺麗で、いきいきとしていて集大成を見せていただいている感じでした。３年次生を見ていると今までこのLiko Lehuaを全員が特別な場所とし、フラダンスをとことん楽しんでやり切った気持ちがすごく伝わりました。３年次生とは約半年しか活動が出来ませんでした。けれど３年次生は私にとってかけがえのない存在になっていました。先輩全員に対してそれぞれに憧れる部分があり、一人残らず大好きな先輩です。私はこんな素晴らしい人たちにフラダンス部を通して出会えたことをとても誇らしく感じます。

３年次生が引退して今年の夏の大会に向けて練習をしている私たちは、常にハワイの文化を尊重し合い、仲間を思いやりながら、フラダンスを楽しむ気持ちを忘れないことを心構えにして頑張っていきます。発表の舞台がある際はぜひ見に来てください！


Hello! My name is Riko Nakagawa, and I am a freshman student at the Department of Global Tourism. I would like to write about my activities with the hula club Liko Lehua. Currently, there are five first-year students, three second-year students, and two third-year students in the hula club. I practice after school on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Fridays during lunch. After-school practice is mainly conducted by Risa Masuda, a graduate of our university and founder of the club. We practice on our own on our lunch breaks.

Liko Lehua has a unique set of members. I practice hard every day even though it's fun. However, when I joined the club in spring 2021 most practice sessions were held over Zoom due to the pandemic. In this first year, I've only seen the faces of the members on Zoom, and I had a lot of trouble practicing on screen. When I first met the members in person in the second half of the spring semester, it felt strange meeting someone in person that I had always seen right in front of me on screen. Face-to-face practice is easier to understand than Zoom practice, and it felt very rewarding.

In December, third graders held a retirement performance and a Hō’ike, the first stage for us first graders. All the members of the club practiced in their spare time for their first performance and learned new songs. When rehearsing the day before the Hō'ike, we realized that tomorrow would be really the last time I can dance with the third graders. Even though they were still rehearsing, the first and second graders desperately held back their tears. And the day came when the show started. It was my first-time dancing on stage , and I was nervous at first, but I was able to enjoy dancing gradually from the middle of the routine. Actually, I was very nervous on the day, but it was fun and it was a really good moment to share with the hula dance club. The third graders were dancing beautifully, and it was lively, and it felt like they were showing their complete repertoire. Looking at the third graders, I could feel that everyone enjoyed hula dancing to the fullest and had made Liko Lehua a special place.

I was only able to do activities for about half a year with the members in the third grade. However, the third graders have become irreplaceable for me. I really miss the members in the third grade, and I love them all. I am very proud to have met such wonderful people through hula dance. The third-year students have retired from the club, and we are practicing for this summer's tournament.
