こんにちは！グローバル観光学科三年次生の松浦芽衣です。今回は、私が春休み期間に行った学外活動について紹介します。私は、秋学期に履修した｢ボランティア活動論｣の授業の担当教員である宗田勝也先生にお誘いいただき、沖縄の名桜大学の国際ボランティア研究会の皆様と共に国際ボランティア学会学術大会に参加しました。国際ボランティア学会は、ボランティアに携わる研究者や実践者、学生たちの集う場です。国際ボランティア学会学術大会は、口頭発表と企画セッションがあり、国際ボランティアに関わる活動をされた方々のお話を聞いたり、共に話し合ったりもできます。また、本学術大会には学会員のみならず誰もが参加することができます。
今年は新型コロナウイルスの影響もあり、大会はオンラインで行われました。｢レジリエンス｣、｢紛争とテロの防ぎ方｣、｢新型コロナとボランティア｣、｢農村開発｣、｢デジタルバッジ｣、｢言語文化的マイノリティの支援｣、｢海外経験の意義｣、｢建築×人道支援｣、｢オンラインでの実践活動の可能性｣などをキーワードにした様々な魅力的な発表がありました。私は、海を守ることをテーマにし、｢海洋問題｣、｢動物保護｣と｢人材育成｣をキーワードにした企画セッションを、京都外国語大学四年次生の梅田弘香さんと名桜大学の栗林珠優さんとともに行いました。
この企画セッションにはたくさんの方にご協力頂きました。京都外大の宗田勝也先生、畑田彩先生、ジェフバーグランド先生、そして沖縄の｢誰一人取り残さない社会貢献型コミュニティーGAT｣の副代表である津波駿佑さんにそれぞれインタビューさせて頂きました。上記4名のインタビュイーからは、環境問題や海洋問題へどんな取り組みをされているのか、情報発信をする上で大切なことは何かをお答え頂きました。
企画セッションで海に焦点を当てた理由は、一回生の時に履修した｢Global Engagement｣の授業のファイナルプロジェクトで行った海洋問題に対する取り組みをさらに発展させたかったからです。一人一人が環境問題について知り、今後の自分の行動に責任を持つことと、問題解決に情報発信をするときに大切なことを話し合いました。さらに、環境問題に取り組むために各グループでアクションプランを立てました。ディスカッションを終えて、マイボトルを持つことやゴミ拾いをすることや、インターネットだけの表面上で無く実際にフィールドワークに参加し自身が経験するという案が出ました。また、情報発信に関しては、芸能人が使っているからエコグッズを紹介するのでは無く、自分が使って良かったものを紹介することや、情報源はどこなのかを提示し真実性の高い情報を発信すべきだという意見が出ました。そしてコロナ渦だからこそもっとSNSを活用していこうと話し合いました。
発表を終えて、海外ボランティア経験も無く、知識も浅い私がここまで勉強することができ、環境問題に関心のある学生や先生方からご意見を頂けたのも、宗田先生をはじめとするたくさんの人々と繋がることができたからだと思います。コロナ渦で直接人と人が会えない環境でも、世界中の人と繋がることはできます。私も｢国際ボランティア学会｣というワードを通して京都から沖縄へと繋がることができました。
名桜大学の皆様とは昨年の12月頃に宗田先生のご紹介で出会い、約三ヶ月をかけて各々の企画に力を注ぎました。今回の大会は、名桜大学の国際ボランティア研究会の皆様が実行委員会として主体的に進めてくださり、私が企画セッションでどう進めていくか困っていたときも親身になって、たくさんのアイデアをくださいました。私も同じ大学生として彼らの活躍に感銘を受け、彼らのように立派な大学生になりたいと強く思いました。皆様も残りわずかな春休みを有効活用して、色々なことにチャレンジしてみてください！
Hello! I am Mei Matsuura, a third-year student at the Department of Global Tourism. I will introduce you about my off-campus activities during this spring vacation. Invited by Professor Katuya Soda, who teaches the class "Volunteer Activity Theory," I participated in “THE TNTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF VOLUNTEER STUDIES IN JAPAN” with members of the International Volunteer Lab of Meio University in Okinawa.
“THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF VOLUNTEER STUDIES IN JAPAN“ is a gathering place for researchers, practitioners and students involved in volunteer activities. The conference includes oral presentations and sessions, where we can listen to and discuss with people who have been involved in international volunteer activities.
This year, due to the impact of the coronavirus, the conference was held online. There were many fascinating presentations with keywords such as "Resilience," "How to Prevent Conflict and Terrorism," "The New Corona and Volunteering", "Rural Development," "Digital Badges," "Supporting Linguistic and Cultural Minorities," "The Significance of Overseas Experience,""Architecture x Humanitarian Aid," and "The Potential of Online Practice."
I planed a session and presented in the session with Hiroka Umeda, a fourth-year student at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, and Miyuu Kuribayashi of Meio University on the theme of protecting the ocean, with the keywords "ocean issues," "animal protection," and "human resource development. Many people helped us with this session. We interviewed Professors Katsuya Souda, Aya Hatada, and Jeff Berglund from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, and we also interviewed Mr. Shunsuke Tsuha, the vice-president of an organization called GAT. GAT means give and take, aiming to leave no one behind. The four interviewees answered what they were doing to address environmental and oceanic issues and what is important in disseminating information. The reason why I focused on the ocean in the session was because I wanted to expand the study I did on ocean issues in my final project for my "Global Engagement" class in my first year.
We discussed the importance of each of us knowing about environmental issues and taking responsibility for our own actions in the future, as well as what is important when sending out information to solve problems. After my presentation, I realized that I was able to learn so much even though I had no experience volunteering overseas and my knowledge was limited. I received opinions from students and professors who are interested in environmental issues. I was able to connect with many people including Professor Soda. Even in an environment where you cannot meet people directly in the corona situation, you can still connect with people from all over the world.
I met the people of Meio University around last December through Professor Soda's introduction, and we spent about three months pouring our efforts into each project. When I was having trouble figuring out how to proceed with the sessions, the members of the International Volunteer Lab of Meio University took the initiative as the organizing committee, and they were kind enough to give me many ideas. I was impressed by their activities and strongly wished to become like them. I hope you make the most of your remaining spring vacation and challenge yourselves to do many different things.
