Global Tourism Associate Professor Eric Hawkinson are developing virtual tours with students in his class called 'New Media Lab', a class designed to give students experience creating new forms of media for tourism contexts. The class was designed by Prof. Hawkinson and over the period of the course he teaches the analysis and creation of different forms of digital media such as video editing, digital photography, 360 tours, and augmented reality environments.

グローバル観光学科准教授のエリック・ハーキンソン先生が"New Media Lab"という授業において、学生に提供しているメディア技術を駆使した新しいタイプの観光体験事例を紹介します。以下のビデオをご覧になってみてください。

This week students took a sample virtual tour of #KUFSGT campus to see what is possible using the technology. Here is a short video of the students experience.

Students will start creating their own virtual tours and using them to practice being tour guides.  The case use of this immersive technology seems to work perfectly for tourism education. Giving students a chance to not only invision the future of tourism but get practical experience in creating a tour experience and get immediate feedback.  Students seem to enjoy working with the technology and many are already creating a lot of interesting and creative media.  We are hoping to share these at upcoming open campus and other events here at #KUFSGT.

学生たちもこうした技術を利用して自分たちでバーチャル・ツアーをデザインするようになります。今後、こうした作品はオープンキャンパスをはじめ、学内のイベントなどで共有させていただく予定ですのでどうぞお楽しみに!

After the students have made vitrual tours, they will be creating augmented reality tours. Much like Pokemon Go, students will be experimenting with what augmented reality can do to support travelers by creating content for other students. They will be using an augmented reality application developed by Prof. Hawkinson called ARientation. The application allows people to connect digital content to the real world. It is already availible for download on smartphones. You can find out more about ARientation at http://arientation.com
