みなさん、こんにちは！ グローバル観光学科では、3年次生からゼミ活動が始まります。そこで、今後どのようなゼミに入りたいか考える際の参考になればと思い、各ゼミからのメッセージをご紹介していきたいと思います。第2回目は梶原先生と増田先生のゼミについてです。

〈梶原先生ゼミ〉
“Your small step can make the future and the world — a little better.”あなたのその一歩が、未来を、そして世界を、少し良くします。Akariゼミは、国際交流を通して「自分を変える × 社会を変える」をテーマに、さまざまな人との出会いや交流、活動、調査を通して、自分なりの“グローバル社会との関わり方”を探求するゼミです。
 
3年次では、異文化理解や多文化教育の基礎について調査し、国際交流イベントや地域の多文化サロンに参加します。現場で見つけた課題を分析し、秋学期には学生自身で小さな企画やイベント運営（例：多文化交流会、外国人サポート、地域イベント企画など）に挑
戦し、「知る → 気づく → 行動する力」を伸ばしましょう。
 
4年次では、興味のあるテーマで卒業研究に取り組みます。調査やインタビューを行い、自分のアイデアを社会に発信します。「探求 → 挑戦 → まとめと発信する力」を発揮しましょう。

〈増田先生ゼミ〉
増田ゼミでは、マーケティングや経営学などのビジネスに関する社会科学の調査方法を学び、主に観光・ホスピタリティ産業のビジネスに関する調査や事業提案の実践を通して、学生の皆さん自身の興味・関心や何に面白味を感じるのかの探索・深掘りを支援します。

調査トピックの例としては、観光地マーケティング/経営、SNSやインフルエンサーマー
ケティング、ホスピタリティ産業(小売・飲食・宿泊等)に関する調査、AI/ロボット活用など幅広いテーマを取り上げることができ、京都の企業との共同研究に関わることもできます。

３年次はグループワークを通してビジネスに関する基本的な調査方法を学び、文献調査、調査提案書の作成、基礎的なデータ分析、調査報告書や事業提案書の作成を行ないます。
４年次では、個々の関心に応じた調査テーマを設定し、卒業論文・卒業研究に取り組みます。また、本ゼミでは観光地経営の実践を現地で学ぶフィールド調査も行なっています。

このゼミ活動を通じて、将来的に企画やプロジェクト提案で求められる基本的なビジネスの調査提案書や調査報告書/事業提案書の作成能力が獲得できます。何か面白いビジネスの調査や企画などに取り組みたいと考えている人はぜひ本ゼミにお越しください。

Hello everyone! In the Department of Global Tourism, seminar (zemi) activities begin in the third year. To help you think about which seminar you may want to join, we’d like to share messages from each seminar. This second installment introduces the seminars led by Professor Kajihara and Professor Masuda.

The Kajihara Seminar
“Small steps can make the future and the world a little better.”The Akari Seminar explores how each student can engage with the global community, with
the theme “Transform Yourself × Transform Society.” Through international exchanges, meeting diverse people, activities, and research, students discover their own way of connecting with the world.

In the third year, students study the basics of intercultural understanding and multicultural education, and participate in international exchange events and local multicultural community activities.

Students then analyze issues they discover in the field and, in the autumn semester, take on planning and running small events—such as multicultural gatherings, support activities for foreign residents, or local community projects—to develop the ability to “Learn → Notice
→ Take Action.”

In the fourth year, students work on their graduation research based on a theme that interests them. They conduct surveys and interviews, and share their ideas with society.This is a chance to develop your ability to “Explore → Challenge → Synthesise and Communicate.”

Why not bring your desire to “do something” or “try something” for the international community to life in the Akari Seminar?　Let’s take on the exciting challenge of making the world a little better. It’s time to make the world a little better, together!☺

The Masuda Seminar
In the Masuda Seminar, students learn research methods in the social sciences related to business—such as marketing and management—and, through research and practical business proposals focused on the tourism and hospitality industries, they explore and deepen their own interests and sense of curiosity.

Possible research topics include destination marketing/management, social media and influencer marketing, studies related to the hospitality industry (retail, food service, accommodation, etc.), and the use of AI/robots. Students may also participate in collaborative research with companies in Kyoto.

In the third year, students learn basic business research methods through group work,conducting literature reviews, writing research proposals, performing basic data analysis, and preparing research reports and business proposals.

In the fourth year, each student sets a research theme aligned with their personal interests and undertakes their graduation thesis or research project. The seminar also includes field research where students study the practical management of tourism destinations on-site. Through these seminar activities, students gain the skills needed to prepare business research proposals, research reports, and project proposals—abilities that will be essential for future planning or project-based roles.

皆さん、こんにちは。グローバル観光学科4年生のフェン ティ リーです。今年度新しくご着任された先生方を、お一人ずつ紹介しています。今回は私のゼミの先生でもある岩田英以子先生にインタビューをしてきました！

① ご出身
先生のご出身は香川県高松市。穏やかな海に大小さまざまな島が点在する瀬戸内海に面した、とても美しい街です。そこで開催されている「瀬戸内国際芸術祭」は世界的にも有名で、インバウンド誘致やイベントによる地域活性化の成功事例としても高く評価されています。ちなみに、私のゼミの同級生もこの地域をテーマに卒業論文を書いています。

② 趣味
先生の趣味は「新しい場所に行って、新しいことを学ぶこと」。
旅行をするときも、ただ観光するだけではなく、ニュージーランドで英語教授法を学んだり、インドネシアでヨガインストラクターの資格を取ったりと、その土地ならではの経験を大切にされています。この夏は、ロサンゼルスで開催された映画祭に参加し、通訳を体験しながらプロ野球観戦も楽しまれたそうです。

③ 学生時代
学生時代から旅好きだった先生は、長期休みに海外旅行をするためにアルバイトをして、イギリスやアメリカの短期留学、カナダへの一人旅などを経験されました。卒業旅行では、ネパールでエベレストを目指すトレッキングにも挑戦。先生は「学生だからこそできた自由でワクワクする旅は、最高の思い出」と振り返っておられました。

④ 英語を学ぶきっかけ
先生は大学では食品化学を学んでいましたが、短期留学でイギリスに行ったときに、英語が思うように話せず悔しい思いをしたことが転機になりました。海外では、一人ひとりの考えや個性を大切にする自由な雰囲気があり、とても心地よく感じたそうです。その経験から、「グローバルな環境で働きたい」という気持ちが強まり、英語の勉強を続けるようになったそうです。

⑤ 専門分野
現在の研究テーマは「国際観光人材育成」。観光といえばホテルや航空業界をイメージする方が多いかもしれませんが、先生はMICE（国際会議やイベントの分野）にも注目されています。ゼミでは国際会議場やホテルなどを訪問し、普段の観光とは違う観点から学ぶ機会があります。私も昨年参加して、観光の学びが旅行や宿泊にとどまらず、国際会議やビジネスの場にも広がっていることを実感し、自分の将来の可能性が大きく広がったと感じました。

⑥ 学生へのメッセージ
先生が大切にしている言葉は、あるドラマに登場したフレーズです。

“Keep on learning English. I’m sure it will take you somewhere you never imagined.”（英語の勉強を続けていれば、きっと思いもよらない場所へ連れて行ってくれるはずです。）

先生自身も、大学生の頃には、「大学で英語を教えることになる」とは想像していなかったそうです。それでも、1日20分のラジオ英会話を大学時代に始めて6年間続けたことが、結果として外資系企業への就職や海外出張につながり、大きなチャンスとなりました。「学生の皆さんにも、どんな小さいことからでもいいので、まずは何かをコツコツ続けてみてください」と力強いメッセージをいただきました。

今回のインタビューを通じて、岩田先生の経験の豊かさと学生への温かい思いを感じました。とても朗らかでお話ししやすい先生なので、皆さんも機会があれば、ぜひ先生に声をかけてみてください。

Hello everyone, I’m Huynh Thi Ly, a senior in the Department of Global Tourism Studies. This year, I’ve been introducing the new professors who joined our faculty. This time, I had the pleasure of interviewing Professor Eiko Iwata, who also happens to be my seminar advisor!

1. Hometown
Professor Iwata is from Takamatsu City in Kagawa Prefecture—a beautiful coastal city facing the Seto Inland Sea, where calm waters are dotted with islands both large and small. The city is internationally known for the Setouchi Triennale, an acclaimed art festival that has become a model for attracting inbound tourism and revitalizing local communities through culture. Incidentally, one of my seminar classmates is writing their graduation thesis on this very region.

2. Hobbies
Her hobby is “visiting new places and learning new things.”
Even when she travels, she doesn’t just go sightseeing—she seeks experiences that are unique to each place. For example, she studied English teaching methodology in New Zealand, earned a yoga instructor certification in Indonesia, and most recently, this summer, she attended a film festival in Los Angeles, where she tried her hand at interpreting while also enjoying a professional baseball game.

3. Student Life
Professor Iwata loved traveling even as a student. She worked part-time to save money for long vacations, which she spent studying abroad in the UK and the US, or traveling solo in Canada.
For her graduation trip, she took on the challenge of trekking in Nepal, aiming to reach Everest Base Camp. Looking back, she said, "Those free-spirited, exciting journeys I could only take as a student are my best memories.”

4. Why She Studied English
Although she originally majored in food chemistry at university, her short-term study abroad experience in the UK became a turning point. Not being able to express herself in English as she wished left her frustrated, but she was also deeply impressed by the open atmosphere overseas, where people’s individuality and ideas were respected. That experience inspired her to pursue English more seriously, driven by the desire to work in a global environment.

5. Field of Expertise
Her current research theme is “Developing Human Resources in International Tourism.” While many people associate tourism with hotels and airlines, Professor Iwata also focuses on the MICE field—international meetings,
conferences, and events.

In her seminar, we have opportunities to visit convention centers and hotels to gain insights beyond everyday tourism. I joined one of these visits last year, and it made me realize that tourism studies extend beyond travel and hospitality to include business and international communication. It truly broadened my vision for the future.

6. A Message to Students
One phrase that Professor Iwata treasures comes from a drama:
“Keep on learning English. I’m sure it will take you somewhere you never imagined.” She herself never imagined, back in her student days, that she would one day be teaching English at a university. But the habit of practicing 20 minutes of radio English every day for six years opened the door to a job at a foreign-affiliated company, international business trips, and many valuable experiences.

Her advice to students is:
“Even if it’s something small, try to continue it steadily. You never know what kind of opportunities it might lead to.” Through this interview, I was inspired by both the richness of Professor Iwata’s experiences and her warm dedication to students. She’s cheerful and approachable, so if you ever have the chance, I highly encourage you to talk with her. Thank you very much, Professor Iwata!

みなさん、こんにちは！グローバル観光学科4年次生の田中萌々花、中谷愛佳、櫻井萌絵です。9月13日、大阪・関西万博のカナダパビリオンにて、3年次生の堂本涼晴、増井梨乃、2年次生の坪井佑達、パク・ヨヌと一緒に、和歌山県美浜町と共同開発したご当地ラーメン「みおラーメン」のイベントを開催しました！今回の万博イベントは、本学のキャリア支援部が今夏実施した美浜町三尾地区でのインターンシッププログラムや、五嶋先生、平田先生、原先生、河上先生各ゼミの活動とも連動した取り組みとして実施されました。またグローバル・スタディーズ学科からもNodoka Okadaさんと Boonyakida Day Chanikarnさんが通訳として参加くださいました。

なぜカナダパビリオンで「みおラーメン」？
実は、和歌山県美浜町三尾地区は明治から昭和のはじめを中心に、多くの若者が出稼ぎ移民としてカナダへ渡った歴史を持つ場所です。今でも日系カナダ人の方々が祖先のルーツを訪ねて三尾を訪れています。このような歴史を継承する拠点として地域には「カナダミュージアム」もあり、三尾とカナダのつながりは今も息づいています。このような三尾からの移民輩出の歴史を研究されてきた、私たちの先生である河上幸子教授とのご縁から、京都外国語大学と美浜町は連携協定を結び、地域おこしの一環として誕生したのが「みおラーメン」です。三尾の特産品であるイセエビを使った一杯は、2年前の限定営業の際に在名古屋カナダ領事館のDavid Perdue領事にもご賞味いただきました。さらに協定校であるカナダ・ノースアイランド・カレッジのLisa Domae学長のおじいさまが三尾出身というご縁から、昨年には現地でみおラーメンを提供したこともあります。こうした三尾とカナダと京都外国語大学のつながりが、今回の万博イベント開催へとつながりました。

万博イベントの様子
当日は、美浜町の隣にある御坊市の日高高校生の皆さんと私たちでトークイベント、さらにみおラーメンのデモンストレーションを行い、300杯限定でみおラーメンを提供しました。今回は特別に「カナダポーク」を使ったチャーシューを使用しました。さらに器には五嶋俊彦先生と平田眞康先生によるご尽力で、NPO法人京都発・竹・流域環境ネットのご協力を得て、京都の放置竹林を活用した竹カップホルダーを制作して使用し、三尾 × 京都 × カナダの繋がりを実感した１日になりました。

この日はなんと来場者数が20万人を超える大盛況の日！ 会場はすぐにいっぱいになり、多くの方にみおラーメンを知っていただくことができました。「三尾の交流人口を増やしたい」、「移民の歴史を通したカナダとのつながりを、また強くしたい」。そんな思いから始まったみおラーメン。今回のイベントは、その思いを形にできたとても特別な日になりました。

今回のイベントの実現にあたり、たくさんの方々にお力添えをいただきました。まず、カナダ・パビリオン政府代表のLaurie Petersさん、司会を務めてくださった副館長のMatt Fraserさん、そしてラーメンの下準備を含め会場を盛り上げてくださったシェフチームの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。さらに、実務面を大きく支えてくださったコーディネーターのJeanine Tartarianさん、広報・メディアを担当してくださった Ngoc Thao Vy Hoangさんにも、この場を借りて心からの感謝をお伝えしたいと思います。和歌山県美浜町からは籔内美和子町長をはじめ、美浜町役場防災まちづくりみらい課の皆さん、NPO法人日ノ岬・アメリカ村理事長の大江亮輔さん、副理事長の安藤妃史さん、理事でカナダ・ミュージアム館長の三尾たかえさん、「麺と向かってみお」店長代理の尾上幸太郎さん、レストランL'Alberoの木戸地直紀さんなど、11名の方々が駆けつけてご協力をいただきました。また、岩永淳志さんや和歌山県の万博推進課、日高振興局からも広報協力をいただきました。本学からも執行部の方々や校友会の皆様、先輩や学科の学生さんたちが応援にかけつけてくださいました。総合企画部や入試広報部はじめ職員の皆様にも準備から助けていただきました。皆さまのお力添えがあってこそ、このイベントを無事に開催することができました。本当にありがとうございました。

次回は、11月2日・3日の外大祭で屋台出店を予定しています！ ぜひ一度、みおラーメンを味わっていただけたら嬉しいです。
