みなさん、こんにちは。グローバル観光学科２年次生の山下空真です。昨年１１月に広報隊に入りました。記念すべき私の初回の投稿は、２月２０日から３月１日（移動日含む）まで母や弟と一緒に行ったクック諸島について紹介します。

「クック諸島」は南太平洋の真ん中、日付変更線の（東側）赤道を挟んでちょうどハワイの真下にあります。現在２月の季節は真夏、時差はハワイと同じ−19時間、そのため、２月２１日を２回過ごす事ができましたが、うるう年の２月２９日は6時間だけ過ごしました。首都はアヴァルアで、１周３２キロの島です。公共交通機関はバスがあります。時計回りと反時計のバスがあります。約1時間で１周できます。驚くことに、信号はありません。

私がクック諸島でしてみたかったことのひとつに、海を背景に飛行機が着陸するスポットで写真を撮影することがありました。しかし、飛行機の便が少なく上手くその時間に合わせられないので、海を背景に飛行機の離陸が見たい方は事前にフライトスケジュールを確認する必要があります。２枚目の写真は、クック諸島に着陸したニュージーランド航空便の写真です。残念ながら、海を背景に飛行機が着陸する写真を撮ることはできませんでしたが、着陸の写真が撮れて私は満足しています。

次に、海のアクティビティ体験で印象に残ったことをご紹介します。一つは「ナイトサップ」です。サップはStand Up Paddle Boardの略で、ボードを使っておこなうマリンスポーツの一種です。今回はナイトサップという名のとおり、夜におこないました。夜でも安心でとても綺麗なLEDライト付きのサップを漕ぎます。途中、無人島（コロミリ・モツ）でファイヤーダンスショーを見ました。夕日を見ながら、サップを漕ぐことができました。サンゴ礁の海でするので初心者でも簡単にできると思います。二つ目は、ラグーンクルーズです。3時間半のツアーです。これは昼間に地元のスタッフが歌を歌いながら、ウクレレと木でできたドラムを叩き私たちを楽しませてくれます。乗ってから約20分後、シュノーケリングを楽しむ事ができます。まるで水族館の中にいるようで、とても綺麗です。私は泳ぐことが苦手なので、写真を撮りました。それから小島（現地語でモツ）に上陸をしてご飯を食べます。クック諸島のご飯は、マヒマヒのステーキや焼きバナナ、トロピカルフルーツがあります。マヒマヒは日本語でシイラです。（イエローフィッシュ）その後は、ココナッツショーや、ヤシの木に命綱無しで登るショーは迫力がありました。ラグーンクルーズやサップは、現地の人も多く参加していました。そのほかの参加者については、オーストラリア人やニュージーランド人が８割でした。アジアからの訪問者は、私たちだけでした。

クック諸島は、中1の時に行った初めての国で、今回が２回目の訪問です。ニュージーランド航空に乗って気づいたことがあります。機内食の食器がSDGsを意識したものに変わっていました。７年前に乗った時は、プラスチックの食器やスプーン、フォークでした。しかし、今回乗った時は、木でできた食器やスプーン、フォークでした。そして、環境配慮されていて、使いやすかったです。英語は上手くありませんが、現地の人とのコミュニケーションは楽しかったです。クック諸島は、あまり日本人に知られていませんが、多くの人に知ってもらいたいです。読んで頂きありがとうございました。

Hey everyone, I'm Sorama Yamashita, a sophomore in the Global Tourism department. I joined the PR team last November. For my first post, I'm going to share about my trip to the Cook Islands with my mother and younger brother, which we took from February 20th to March 1st, including travel days.

The Cook Islands are located smack dab in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean, right below Hawaii, across the equator and to the east of the International Date Line. It's the peak of summer there in February, with a time difference of minus 19 hours from Hawaii. Because of this time difference, we got to experience February 21st twice, but only spent 6 hours on February 29th, a leap day. The capital is Avarua, situated on an island that's 32 kilometers in circumference. There's a bus service for public transportation, with buses running clockwise and anticlockwise, making a full loop in about an hour. Interestingly, there are no traffic lights.

One thing I really wanted to do in the Cook Islands was to take photos with the ocean in the background as planes landed. However, there aren't many flights, and it's hard to time it right, so if you want to see planes take off against the backdrop of the sea, you need to check the flight schedule in advance. The second photo I took was of a New Zealand Airlines flight landing in the Cook Islands. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a shot of a plane landing with the ocean in the background, but I'm happy I managed to capture its landing.

Now, let me share some memorable sea activities. One was "night SUP." SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) is a marine sport where you stand on a board and paddle. This time, as the name suggests, we did it at night. We paddled on SUP boards equipped with beautiful LED lights, which made it safe even at night. We stopped at an uninhabited island (Koromiri Motu) to watch a fire dance show. Paddling while watching the sunset was possible. Since it's done over a coral reef sea, it's easy even for beginners.

The second activity was a lagoon cruise. This tour lasts about three and a half hours. During the day, local staff entertain us by singing and playing the ukulele and wooden drums. About 20 minutes after setting off, you can enjoy snorkeling. It's like being inside an aquarium, so beautiful. Since I'm not good at swimming, I took photos instead.

Then, we landed on a small island - Motu in the local language - and had a meal. Cook Islands cuisine includes mahi-mahi steak, grilled banana, and tropical fruits. Mahi-mahi is known as shiira in Japanese (yellowfish).

The coconut show and the show of climbing palm trees without safety lines were thrilling. Both the lagoon cruise and SUP had many locals participating. As for the other participants, about 80% were Australians and New Zealanders. We were the only visitors from Asia.

The Cook Islands were the first country I visited when I was in the seventh grade, and this trip marks my second visit. One thing I noticed while flying with New Zealand Airlines was a shift towards sustainability, especially with the in-flight meal utensils. Seven years ago, the utensils were made of plastic, including the plates, spoons, and forks. However, this time, they were made of wood, which was not only environmentally friendly but also easy to use. Although my English isn't perfect, communicating with the locals was fun. The Cook Islands might not be well-known among Japanese people, but I hope more people will learn about them. Thank you for reading my report!

みなさん、こんにちは！グローバル観光学科２年次生の長谷川穂香です。私は11月中旬、といっても既に雪が降っていて驚いたのですが、極寒の高野山（和歌山県）を訪れました。今回は、スピリチュアルツーリズムでも人気の観光地、高野山での体験についてご紹介します。

京都から滋賀にまたがる地には、最澄が開いた天台宗の比叡山がありますが、同じ時期に真言宗を開いた空海は、僧侶が修業する場として和歌山県の高野山を選びました。山のふもとからケーブルカーで急な坂を上がっていくと、しん、と静まり返った高野山に到着します。先ほどまでいた人ごみの渦とは別世界、空気の透き通った素晴らしい地です。ちょうど今年はお大師さま（空海）がお生まれになって1250年の記念の年で、高野山では様々な催し物がありました。さて、宗教の話となるとなんだか難しい話のように思うかもしれませんが、あまり身構えずに読んでください。宗教と言うものにあまり自覚のない日本人だからこそ、日本に古くから存在する宗教について学ぶことは意味のあることだと思います。

人はなぜ、手を合わせると思いますか？宿泊させていただいたお寺の和尚さんから、そう問われました。みなさんは、なぜ御墓の前で、あるいは食事をいただくとき、手を合わせるのでしょう。昔流行った曲のように、そうです、そこに亡くなった人はいません。和尚さんによると、手を合わせることのひとつの目的は「心の目」で自分の中にある真実を見つめるためだそうです。手を合わせて、心の中で話しかけるとき、自分にとってたしかにそこに存在するものがあるのです。こういった和尚さんのお話を聞くことができるので、高野山を訪れる際はぜひ、ホテルではなく宿坊に泊まってみることをお勧めします。

朝のお勤めで和尚さんのお話を聞いた後は、受戒の体験に行ってきました。受戒とは仏さまの示された戒めの教えを阿闍梨さまから直接授かり法話を頂く儀式です。10個の戒めのなかでも多くの人がご存知だと思うのは、不殺生（ふせっしょう）です。「生き物を殺してはいけない」という意味で、宿坊でいただく食事でも動物の肉を使わない精進料理が提供されます。ほかにも、不慳貪（ふけんどん）は「むさぼらない」と言う意味で、物質的な豊かさや金銭で幸せを測ろうとせず、モノのあふれた現代社会であっても、本当に求められているものに目を向けるよう説いてくれています。受戒は年間を通じていつでも体験ができるので気軽に参加できますし、阿闍梨さまのご法話はその都度少しずつ内容が違います。

高野山はすばらしい宗教の聖地の1つですが、日本人観光客よりも外国人観光客の方が多い印象を持ちました。より多くの人が、高野山真言宗に限らず、自らの国の宗教を学び、豊かに生きられたら良いと感じる旅行でした。高野山へは京都駅から直通バスが出ていて、３時間ほどで到着します。みなさんもぜひ、高野山に足を運んでみてはいかがでしょうか。

Hello everyone! I'm Honoka Hasegawa, a second-year student in the Global Tourism Department. In mid-November, I visited Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture, which was memorable due to the surprise of snow already falling at the higher altitude. I’d like to share my experiences at this popular destination for spiritual tourism.

The border between Kyoto and Shiga is renowned for Mount Hiei, established by Saicho of the Tendai sect. Concurrently, Kukai, the founder of the Shingon sect, selected Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture as a training ground for monks. Ascending the mountain's steep slope via cable car, you enter the tranquil and silent realm of Mount Koya. It is a stark contrast to the bustling crowds I had just left behind, offering a haven with crisp, clear air. This year notably marks the 1250th anniversary of the birth of esteemed master Kukai, celebrated with various events on Mount Koya. Discussions about religion might appear daunting, but I urge you to continue reading with an open mind. As many Japanese are not deeply familiar with religion, exploring Japan's ancient faiths can be enlightening.

"Why do people put their hands together?" This question was posed to me by a monk at the temple where I stayed. Why do we clasp our hands at graves or before meals? The monk elucidated that this act is a means of using the "mind's eye" to introspectively seek truth. By clasping your hands and speaking inwardly, you acknowledge the significance of something profound in your life. Hearing such insights from the monk, I strongly suggest opting for temple lodgings over hotels when visiting Mount Koya.

During the morning service, the monk's discourse led me to experience jukai. This ceremony involves receiving Buddha's teachings on precepts directly from the monk, accompanied by a sermon. Among the ten precepts, the well-known one is "not to kill" (fusessho), advocating respect for all life. Reflecting this, the temple lodging serves vegetarian meals, abstaining from animal flesh. Another precept, "Not to be greedy" (fuken-don), cautions against equating happiness with material wealth, encouraging us to seek deeper values amidst today's rampant materialism. Jukai is available year-round, with each monk's sermon offering unique insights. Rather than merely admiring these teachings, I felt compelled to integrate the resonant principles into my daily life.

While Mount Koya is a revered sacred site, I noticed a predominance of foreign tourists over Japanese visitors. This observation sparked a hope that more Japanese people, irrespective of their religious affiliations, would delve into their nation's spiritual heritage to enrich their lives. Mount Koya is accessible from Kyoto Station by a direct three-hour bus ride. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this spiritually enriching destination.

こんにちは！グローバル観光学科2年次生の星野 太希です。9月が過ぎて10月となり、2023年も残すところあと2か月となりました。これからハロウィンやクリスマスがあるので、1日1日を楽しみつつ、様々なことに挑戦していきたいと思います。今回のブログでは、私が夏休みに行ってきたアメリカのディズニーワールドの7つのテーマパークのうちの一つ、「Magic Kingdom」について紹介します！

まずはMagic Kingdomについての紹介です。ディズニーワールドはアメリカ合衆国のフロリダ州オーランドに在るディズニーワールド内のテーマパークの1つで、1971年に建てられました。東京ディズニーランドのモデルとなった場所でもあり、フロリダのMagic Kingdomとの両者を比較すると、アトラクションやテーマパーク内のエリアはどこか似ている場所がある、そんなテーマパークです。

次に、私自身が行って感じた、「Magic Kingdom」についての感想です。先ほど「アトラクションやテーマパーク内のエリアはどこか似ている場所がある」と書きましたが、酷似しているわけではありません。その例として、「Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin」という、日本でいう「バズ・ライトイヤーのアストロブラスター」に似ている、乗り物に乗りつつ備え付けの光線銃で射撃を行うアトラクションがあります。これは日本だとその銃が取り外せるのに対し、フロリダだと取り外さない固定式になっているという違いがありました。また、日本にはない「Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid」という、1989年に公開された「The Little Mermaid」という映画を基にしたアトラクションがあるなど、運営しているアトラクション自体にも違いがありました。そして、エリアも日本にはない「塔の上のラプンツェル」を基にしたエリアがあるなど、日本とフロリダのディズニーの違いを感じることができました。

また、日本では美女と野獣のエリアを作るために閉鎖されてしまった「グランドサーキット・レースウェイ」がフロリダではまだ運営されていました。さらに、「Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room」という、日本でいう「魅惑のチキルーム」にあたるアトラクションでは、日本ではリニューアルによってスティッチが登場する演出やそれに合わせた歌が流れるのに対し、フロリダでは完成した当初から変わらない演出や歌があったりと、少しレトロな雰囲気も感じることができました。それだけでなく、パレードでは日本より花火が圧倒的に多く上がっていたり、役者が「ピーター・パン」に出てくるキャラクターである「ティンカー・ベル」に扮して実際に大空を飛んでいたりと派手な演出を感じることができました。しかし、日本よりアトラクションの休止頻度が圧倒的に多かったり、アトラクションによってではありますが、日本にある同じようなアトラクションの方が演出を行う過程が丁寧に作られていて、よりリアルさを感じさせているなど「少し詰めが甘いな」と思う場面もあったりしました。

今回はフロリダのディズニーワールドのテーマパークの1つである「Magic Kingdom」についての紹介と自らの目で見て感じたことを挙げました。全体的な作りは日本の東京ディズニーランドに似ているためどうしても比較対象となってしまうのですが、だからこそ日本のディズニーとの違いを見ることができたので、いい思い出になっただけでなく、他の海外のディズニーにもいつか行ってみてどのような違いがあるのかを見てみようと思いました。

Disney World Trip to Florida PART 1

Hello, this is Taiki Hoshino, a second-year student in the Department of Global Tourism! As September has passed and October has arrived, there are only three months left in the year. With Halloween and Christmas on the horizon, I'm eager to make the most of each day and set myself various challenges. In this blog post, I'd like to introduce you to Magic Kingdom, one of the seven theme parks at Disney World in the United States that I had the opportunity to visit during my summer vacation!

First, let me provide an introduction to Magic Kingdom. This theme park is situated within Disney World in Orlando, Florida, USA, and it first opened its doors in 1971. Notably, it served as the blueprint for Tokyo Disneyland, and upon comparing the attractions and areas within the theme park to those in Magic Kingdom, Florida, one can discern certain similarities.

Next, I'd like to share my impressions of Magic Kingdom. As previously mentioned, the attractions and areas in this theme park bear some resemblance to their counterparts in Japan. For instance, there's Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, an attraction similar to Japan's Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster, where you board a ride and engage in ray gun combat.

However, there's a difference – in Japan, you can remove the gun, while in Florida, it's a fixed type. Another attraction worth mentioning is Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid, based on the 1989 movie "The Little Mermaid"

, which is not available in Japan. Additionally, there's an area themed around Rapunzel on the Tower, which also doesn't exist in Japan. In Florida, they still have the Grand Circuit Raceway, which was replaced in Japan to make way for the Beauty and the Beast area.

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, the counterpart to the one in Japan, is also still in operation in Florida. In Japan, the attraction has been updated with the addition of Stitch and a new song, but in Florida, it has remained the same since its completion. Furthermore, the parade in Florida featured more fireworks than its Japanese counterpart, and there were actors dressed as Tinker Bell from Peter Pan who actually flew through the sky.

However, I did notice that some of the attractions in Florida seemed a bit less detailed than their Japanese counterparts. This was evident in the frequency of ride suspensions and the overall staging, which I found to be more carefully executed and realistic in Japan, depending on the specific attraction.

The Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction truly immerses you in the iconic scene from the movie it's based on. And the parade in Florida was a grand spectacle, surpassing the one in Japan!

In this blog post, I've introduced the Magic Kingdom, one of the Disney World theme parks in Florida, and shared my firsthand experiences and observations. While the park's overall layout bears similarities to Tokyo Disneyland in Japan, it's precisely these comparisons that allowed me to appreciate the nuances and distinctions between the Florida Magic Kingdom and its Japanese counterpart. It has also left me with the desire to explore other Disney parks around the world to uncover the unique differences they have to offer.

皆さん、こんにちは。グローバル観光学科3年次生の長渡静流です。長い夏の休暇期間も終わり、新しい学期が始まりました。皆さんはこの夏休みをどのように過ごされましたか？私はこの夏、カナダに短期留学する機会を得ました。カナダでは様々な場所を訪れましたが、その中でも特に印象深かったのはウィスラーというリゾート地です。ウィスラーはカナダのブリティッシュコロンビア州にある町で、冬は北米最大のスキー場として有名です。また、夏は自然やアクティビティが豊富な避暑地としても人気で、ハイキングやマウンテンバイクなどのアウトドアアクティビティが充実しています。さらに、ウィスラーにはギネス記録を持つゴンドラ「Peak 2 Peak」があり、壮大な景色を楽しむことができます。私はこの記事でウィスラーでの旅行体験を皆さんにご紹介したいと思います。

私はウィスラーへの旅行をバンクーバー発のバスツアーで参加しました。バンクーバーからウィスラーまでは車で約2時間かかりますが、行き道の途中ではシーツ―スカイハイウェイという絶景ドライビングコースがあり、道路沿いの海や森などの次々現れる壮大な景色を、時間いっぱい楽しむことができました。また、シーツ―スカイハイウェイにあるシャノン滝に立ち寄り、335メートルもの高さから豪快に流れ落ちる水の迫力を身近に感じました。

ウィスラーに到着してからは、美しい街並みを楽しみながら町のレストランやお土産ショップを散策しました。また、冒頭でも紹介したPeak 2 Peakという、ウィスラー山とブラッコム山を結ぶ世界最長のゴンドラに乗って山頂を目指し、息を飲むような絶景を楽しみました。山の頂上にはいくつかのレストランや展望台があり、私はそこでカナダ料理のロブスターサンドを食べ、山々や森や湖などの360°広がるダイナミックな大自然を堪能しました。

ウィスラーでの旅行を通して、私はカナダの自然や文化に触れることができました。日本で見ることのできる絶景とはまた違った自然の美しさや力強さ、文化の多様さや歴史を感じ、とても貴重な経験を得ることができました。また、カナダでは様々な国籍や民族の人々と交流する機会がありました。彼らがそれぞれ違う習慣や価値観を持っていても、互いに尊重しあう姿に、私は多くの事を学びました。英語だけでなく、他の言語や文化にも興味を持つきっかけにもなりました。皆さんも機会があれば、ぜひウィスラーを訪れてみてください！

Hello everyone. My name is Shizuru Nagato, and I am a student in my junior year in the Department of Global Tourism here at KUFS.

The long summer vacation is over and a new semester has begun. How did you spend your summer vacation? This summer, I had a chance to study abroad in Canada. I visited various cities and towns, but the place that left the deepest impression on me was the resort of Whistler.

Whistler is a town in British Columbia and in winter it is famous as the largest ski resort in North America. In summer, it is also a popular summer retreat with abundant nature and activities, including hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. In addition, Whistler is home to the Peak 2 Peak gondola, which holds the Guinness World Record for the most spectacular views. In this blog post I would like to share my travel experiences in Whistler.

I got to Whistler on a bus from Vancouver. It takes about 2 hours from Vancouver to Whistler by car, but on the way there is the Sheets Sky Highway, a route with spectacular views of the ocean and forests, which I enjoyed. We also stopped by Shannon Falls where we felt the power of the waterfalls as they cascaded down from a height of 335 meters.

After arriving in Whistler, we enjoyed the beautiful townscape and strolled around the town's restaurants and souvenir stores. We also took the Peak 2 Peak, the world's longest gondola ride connecting Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain, to the top of the mountain to enjoy the breathtaking view. There are several restaurants and observation decks at the top, where I had a Canadian lobster sandwich and enjoyed the dynamic 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, including mountains, forests, and lakes.

The trip to Whistler allowed me to experience Canadian nature and culture. I was able to experience the beauty and power of nature, cultural diversity and history, which are different from the scenery that I can see here in Japan, and it was a very valuable experience.

I also had the opportunity to interact with people of various nationalities and ethnicities in Canada. I learned a lot from the way they respected each other even though they had different customs and values. It was an opportunity for me to become interested in not only English, but also other languages and cultures. I encourage everyone to visit Whistler if you have the chance!
