みなさん、新年明けましておめでとうございます！グローバル観光学科１年次生の岩本茉子です。私は家族とお正月をのんびり過ごしている日々ですが、みなさんはいかがお過ごしでしょうか？さて、今回は私が9月末から11月まで参加した、京都外国語大学のランゲージセンターが行なっている「Talk and Learn Japanese（TLJ）」について、お話したいと思います。
はじめに、「TLJ」の活動について説明します。また、それにあたり、TLJの活動を担当してくださっているランゲージセンターの近藤先生からもお話を伺いました。まず、TLJとはタイの大学で日本語を勉強している学生の方とバディを組み、2か月間オンライン上で週に一度、約１時間日本語でお話をする活動です。そして、活動の目的は主に３つあります。１つ目はタイの学生の日本語を使う機会を増やす。２つ目は日本側の学生がわかりやすく説明する経験をつむ。３つ目は双方の学生に様々な文化や考えにふれてもらう。実際に参加をした日本人学生からは「外国語を勉強するモチベーションが上がった」などという声や、タイの学生からは「日本語が通じたことで、自信がついた」という感想もあったそうです。
次に、私がこの活動に参加しようと思った理由は「タイの学生の人と話せるなんて楽しそう！」という思いからでした。実際に参加をしてみるとたくさんの学びがありました。その一つが、日本語の難しさです。例えば、私はバディの方から「雨が降りそうです」と「雨が降るそうです」の違いについて質問をもらいました。しかし、意味の違いは分かっていても、いざそれを説明するとなった時に、わかりやすい日本語で説明するということが非常に難しかったです。このような経験から、私はわかりやすい日本語を使うということは普段の生活でも大切だと感じました。これはプレゼンなど自分の考えを伝えるときにも、より多くの人に理解してもらうことに繋がるため、日頃からこのようなことを心がけていきたいと思いました。
また、私はバディの方からタイのお祭りや料理、映画などについてたくさん教えてもらいました。その中でも、印象的だったのがタイのお祭りの「ロイクラトン」と「ブン・バンファイ」です。まず、「ロイクラトン」とは灯籠（クラトン）を川に流す（ロイ）というお祭りで、11月頃に開催されています。私は灯籠というと紙のイメージを持っていましたが、ロイクラトンではバナナの幹や葉やココナッツの殻など地域によって様々な灯籠を流しているそうです。写真を見せてもらいましたが、真っ暗な空間に灯籠の光が映えていてとても綺麗でした。また、「ブン・バンファイ」は毎年5月頃に豊穣をもたらす豊かな雨を乞う儀式としてタイの東北部で開催されています。地元の人たちが何メートルもする竹のロケットを作り、打ち上げているそうです。そして、このお祭りは日本の埼玉県秩父市で開催されている「龍勢祭」にとても似ていると教えてもらいました。このようなタイと日本の文化に共通点があることを知るのはとても面白いなと思いました。
今回、TLJに参加したことで今まで全く知らなかったタイの文化を知ることができ、タイへ行った時の楽しみが増えました。そして、何よりも普段話すことができないタイの学生の方と話すことができ、貴重な体験ができてよかったです。

Happy New Year everyone! My name is Mako Iwamoto and I am a freshman student in the Department of Global Tourism. Here I would like to tell you about the Talk and Learn Japanese (TLJ) project from the Language Center in Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. I took part in this project from end of September to November.
Firstly, an explanation of TLJ. First of all, TLJ is an activity in which we form a friendship with a student “buddy” studying Japanese at a university in Thailand and talk with him or her in Japanese for about an hour once a week online for two months. The purpose of TLJ is threefold: first, to increase opportunities for Thai students to use Japanese; second, to increase opportunities for Japanese students to gain experience in explaining things in an easy-to-understand manner; and third, to expose both sides of students to various cultures and ideas. Japanese students who have participated in the program have commented, "I am now more motivated to study foreign languages” and the Thai students have also given their feedback, "I gained confidence because I was able to communicate in Japanese".
Next, I decided to participate in this activity because I thought, "It would be fun to talk with Thai students!" When I actually participated, I learned a lot. One of them is the difficulty of Japanese language. For example, my buddy asked me about the difference between "it looks like it is going to rain" and "it is going to rain” - and even though I knew the difference in meaning, when it came time to explain this key point, it was very difficult to explain it in easy-to-understand Japanese. From this experience, I realized that using easy-to-understand Japanese is important even in everyday life. This will lead to more people understanding my ideas when I give presentations, etc., so I would like to keep this in mind for my future endeavors.
I also learned a lot about Thai festivals, cuisine, movies, etc. from my buddy. Among them, the most impressive were the Thai festivals Loi Krathong and Bun Bang Fai. Loi Krathong is a festival in which lanterns (krathong) are floated down a river (loi), and it is held around November. I had an image of paper lanterns, but various types of lanterns are used, such as banana leaves and coconut shells, depending on the region. I was shown pictures of these lanterns, which looked very beautiful. Bun Bang Fai is held in the northeastern part of Thailand every year around May as a ceremony to beg for abundant rainfall that will bring a good harvest. The local people make and launch bamboo rockets that are many meters long. I was also told that this festival was very similar to the Ryusei Matsuri held in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. I thought it was very interesting to know that there are similarities between Thai and Japanese culture.
By participating in the TLJ program, I was able to learn about Thai culture, and now I am looking forward to visiting Thailand. And above all, I am glad that I was able to talk with Thai students, who I normally would not be able to talk with. It was a valuable experience for me.

コロナ以前はこんなことも可能でした。意外かもしれません。実は海外渡航は気軽に、また方法によっては"国内旅行よりも安価で"実現が可能なのです。
皆さんこんにちは！グローバル観光学科3年次生の實田 優心です。これまでに100回を超える海外渡航歴があり、東南アジアを中心に世界の様々な地を歩いてまいりました。2022年には10カ国以上を訪問し（ほとんどは旅行や観光目的ではありません）コロナ禍によって変化した様々な地域を調査してきました。観光地化が急速に進む地域、観光客減少により閉店する店舗が目立つ地域、それは本当に様々であり、観光の在り方に変化が起こったことは事実であります。
2020年からのパンデミックにより多くの国と地域の国境は閉鎖状態にありましたが…
遂にコロナウイルスによる入国制限も少しずつ緩和され、いよいよ一部の地域において"制限なく"海外渡航が可能となりました！※ 帰国の際には3回以上のワクチン接種または陰性証明書の提出により、隔離は免除されています。（2022年11月現在）
2022年 各国の最新の様子を一部、ご紹介できればと思います！
【ケニア】
2022年3月、ケニアの首都ナイロビからバスで4時間の場所に位置する"ナニュキ"へ、医療研修の目的で訪問しました。3月の時点でケニアではマスク着用義務が解除され、意外にもナイロビのジョモ・ケニヤッタ国際空港にはサファリを目的に多くの観光客が国外より到着していました。実はケニアには赤道線が通っており、北半球と南半球を徒歩にて跨ぐごとが可能です！底に穴が空いたバケツに水を入れ、棒を浮かべて持って跨いでみてください。北半球と南半球では、棒が逆方向に回り続けるのです！
【イギリス】
3月上旬、イギリス・ロンドンを1泊訪れました。まだほぼ全ての国で多くの規制が残る3月でしたが、イギリスはワクチン接種を条件に一足先に開国しており、驚くことにロンドン行きの飛行機（カタール航空 A380）は満席。ロンドンにはコロナ前のような賑わいが戻っていました。

9月は南インド3都市を訪問しましたが、外国人観光客を見かけることはほとんどありませんでした。この時はワクチン接種に加えて陰性証明書が必要であり、オンラインビザも停止されていたことからビザの取得も簡単でなかったことが一つの要因かもしれません。観光客をターゲットにするお店の多くが閉店し、コロナ前と雰囲気は大きく異なりました。相変わらずどこに行っても野良牛が！

観光客をターゲットにするお店やレストランのほとんどが閉店し、バックパッカー通りでさえも閑散としていました。日本人観光客は大幅に減少し日本企業は多く撤退していましたが、ベトナムのリゾート都市を中心に韓国からの観光客が急増加し、韓国系企業が多く目立つようになりました。東南アジア最大のEマートも、数ヶ月前にホーチミンにオープンしたようです！そして2022年はASEAN 55周年記念！大規模なフェスティバルがホーチミンにて行われました！
コロナウイルスの影響を大きく受けた地域も多くありましたが、観光客は日々戻りつつあります。いよいよ！海外旅行再開です！グルメ、マーケット、地元の人々との交流。これまでとは異なる、"新しい観光"が始まります。Have a nice trip!

In 2022, I visited more than 10 countries (mostly not for the purposes of travel or tourism) and I investigated various regions that have been changed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Some areas are rapidly becoming tourist destinations, whereas other areas have remained closed due to a decrease in tourists. It is a fact that the form of tourism has changed. Due to the pandemic, the borders of many countries and regions were closed in 2020. Finally, the restrictions on travel have been eased little by little, and it is finally possible to travel abroad without restrictions in some areas! * When returning to Japan, quarantine is exempted if you have received 3 or more vaccinations or submitted a negative PCR test certificate. (As of November 2022) In this article, I would like to introduce some of the latest situations in some of the countries that I visited in 2022!
【Kenya】
In March 2022, I visited Nanyuki, which is located four hours by bus from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, for the purpose of medical training. As of March, the mask-wearing obligation was lifted in Kenya, and surprisingly many safari tourists arrived from other countries at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
【England】
In early March, I visited London for one night. At the time, there were still many COVID regulations in almost all countries, but the UK opened up quickly due to its rapid roll-out of vaccines, and surprisingly, the plane to London (Qatar Airways A380) was full. London was once again a bustling city like before the pandemic.
【India】
I visited 3 cities in Southern India, but I rarely saw foreign tourists. In September, in addition to vaccinations, a negative PCR test certificate was also required. Since online visa applications were also suspended, it was not easy to obtain a visa. Many of the shops targeting tourists have closed, and the atmosphere in India was very different from before the pandemic. The only thing that hasn't changed is that there are stray cows everywhere. On the station platform, in the shops... Amazing!
【Vietnam】
Most of the tourist shops and restaurants were closed, and even Backpacker Street was deserted. The number of Japanese tourists has decreased significantly, and many Japanese companies have withdrawn from Vietnam. However, the number of Korean companies in Vietnam has increased due to the rapid rise in the number of tourists from South Korea. Moreover, Southeast Asia's largest e-mart also opened in Ho Chi Minh City a few months ago. Lastly, 2022 is the 55th anniversary of ASEAN, and a large-scale festival was held in Ho Chi Minh City.
Although some areas were greatly affected by the pandemic, tourists are returning day by day. Overseas travel is finally back! Food, markets and interaction with the locals. Everything is different from the past. This is a new dawn for tourism. Have a nice trip!

皆さん、こんにちは！グローバル観光学科１年次生の長谷川穂香です。今年も残すところ一ヵ月、冬休みが待ち遠しいですね。電気代が高騰し、暖房を使うのを渋る日々ですが、私は雪に包まれる京都の姿を楽しみにしながら寒さをしのいでいます。さて、今回は途上国に興味がある方、スキルアップしたい方、フランス語やスペイン語を学習中の方は必見の情報です。
私は今年の9月から約2か月の間、全6回に及ぶ「JICA海外協力隊のためのエッセーの書き方講座」に参加しました。主催は途上国の情報を発信する「ganas」というNPO法人開発メディアです。この講座での私の体験と、ganasが開講しているその他の講座をご紹介していきます。

I participated in the "How to Write an Essay for JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers" course, which lasted about two months starting in September this year, for a total of eight sessions. It was hosted by a non-profit organization called ganas, a media outlet that disseminates information on developing countries. I would like to introduce my experience in this course and other courses offered by ganas.
First of all, thanks to the writing course, I learned how to write an interesting essay. Many of you also write reports every day at university, but reports do not have to be captivating for the reader. On the other hand, an essay needs to be written so that it can be read and convey what you want to tell someone. When you try to write an interesting essay, you will naturally see the world in a different light. In this course, I learned a new way to look at developing countries, or how to ask for explanation without resorting to endless sentences starting with "Why?". The more we write, the deeper our understanding of the world around us.
The course included a lot of group work. I was able to interact with people who have been dispatched to developing countries as JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers. Working with people who have seen the wider world and gained more experience than students like me was stimulating, and my desire to visit these locations has grown as a result.
ganas as an NPO offers a variety of other courses. Many focus on writing, and through writing, students can develop many skills that they would like to acquire that might prove useful for their future endeavors. For example, you can learn about different viewpoints and perceptions, as well as how to ask effective questions. By interacting with JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, we were able to gain a realistic understanding of the situation on the ground right now in these developing countries.

私は今年の9月から約2か月の間、全6回に及ぶ「JICA海外協力隊のためのエッセーの書き方講座」に参加しました。主催は途上国の情報を発信する「ganas」というNPO法人開発メディアです。この講座での私の体験と、ganasが開講しているその他の講座をご紹介していきます。

皆さん、こんにちは！グローバル観光学科1年次生の星野太希です。11月に入ってより寒くなり、2022年も残りあと2か月となりました。私自身の2022年は、大学受験をして合格したというのが一番印象に残っていますが、他にもいろいろな「初めて」がありました。その中でも、一番思い出に残っている「初めての大規模な音楽ライブ鑑賞」について書いてみたいと思います。
2022年の10月21日、私は「Night Ranger」というロックバンドの来日ライブを見に行きました。Night Rangerは1982年にデビューしたアメリカのロックバンドです。彼らの1作目である「Dawn Patrol」は、超絶テクニックの2人のギタリストの演奏「ツインリードギター」と、楽曲によってドラマーとベーシストの2人がそれぞれ歌い分ける「ツインヴォーカル」が魅力的なアルバムで、当時のアメリカで流行りつつあった「LAメタル（代表バンドはBON JOVIなど）」というジャンルにマッチしていたということもあり、彼らは本国や日本で多くのファンを獲得しました。Night Rangerのデビュー当時、日本では、彼らを含む海外のロックバンドは、現代でいう韓国アイドルのように、音楽面だけでなく、ルックスも人気の一つだったといわれています。
2022年は彼らにとってデビュー40周年という節目を迎えます。その記念ライブということで本国や日本でライブを開催するとのことでした。私はこのライブのことについて知った時、「今まで好きなバンドのライブはYouTubeにある過去に行われたものしか見たことがないけど、実際の目で見るライブは一体どんなものなのだろう？見てみたい！」という思いが沸き上がり、会場である東京の昭和大学人見記念講堂に、高校生の時に知り合った、音楽の趣味がすごく合う友達と一緒に行ってきました。
実際に見た感想ですが、「今までミュージック・ビデオだったり、YouTubeに載ってある過去に行われたライブの映像だったりでしか見ることができなかったメンバーが、今目の前で演奏している！」と、当たり前の事なのですが、まるで信仰していた神様が目の前に現れたような衝撃を終始受けていました。メンバーの方々は皆40歳を超えているのにすごくパワフルで、彼らより断然若い私の方が逆に元気づけられる、そんな凄いパフォーマンスだと感じました。
私自身他にも好きなバンドはたくさんあり、それらの中には近々来日するかもしれないとファンの中で噂されているバンドもいます。初めて味わった大規模音楽ライブの興奮を目当てに、自分の都合と相談しながらになりますが、また行こうと思います。

My own "first" for 2022 is that I took and passed the university entrance exam, but there were many other "firsts" as well. Among them, I would like to blog about the most memorable one, which was my first time to attend a large-scale concert.
On October 21, 2022, I went to see a live concert by a rock band called Night Ranger. Their first album, Dawn Patrol, featured twin lead guitars played by two guitarists with superb technique and twin vocals sung by the drummer and bassist, depending on the song. At the time of their debut, foreign rock bands were popular in Japan not only for their music but also for their looks, just like Korean idols are today. This year marks the 40th anniversary of their debut. They were going to hold a live concert in the US, their home country, as well as in Japan to commemorate this milestone. When I heard about the concert, I thought to myself, "I have only seen my favorite bands live on YouTube in the past, but what would it be like to see them live? I want to see them!” So I went to the venue, Showa University Hitomi Memorial Auditorium in Tokyo, with a friend of mine from high school who has very similar musical tastes.
I saw the band members perform live, which I had only been able to see in music videos and videos of past concert performances on YouTube. I was shocked to see them perform right in front of me. The band members are all over 60 years old, but they are so powerful and I was so energized by their amazing performance.
There are many other bands that I like, and some of them are rumored to be coming to Japan soon. I will have to check my schedule, but I definitely intend to experience the excitement of a large-scale live music concert again.

こんにちは！グローバル観光学科1年次生の河原のどかです。長期休みも終わり授業が始まりましたが、みなさんはどのような夏休みを過ごされましたか？私は想像よりもあっという間に終わってしまいましたが、さまざまな経験を積むことができました。この夏はNPO法人ドットジェイピー 企画の学生インターンシップに参加し、活動先のNPO法人音の風での経験をお伝えします。
NPO法人音の風は音楽で社会貢献をモットーに社会福祉施設への演奏家派遣、音楽ボランティア、音楽講座の企画、運営しています。例えばゴスペルコーラスを楽しむ「シャイニングスターズ 」、地域の中高年の方が気軽に合唱を楽しむ「歌声教室」、小中学生の子が音楽を楽しみつつ自分自身の個性を認められる子どもコーラス「Comodo 」といったサロンを運営しています。また、社会福祉施設やイベントの際に音の風会員が出向き、参加者も楽しめるような音楽ボランティア派遣活動も行っています。そして、新型コロナウィルス感染症の蔓延により高齢者向けの娯楽・運動イベントが減少してしまったため、「Music Mix 」という楽器の演奏とダンス、体操を組み合わせた介護予防プログラムを始めています。私がNPO法人音の風を活動先として選択した理由は、単純に音楽が好きだからです。本法人はYouTubeチャンネル も運営しているのですが、過去のイベントに出演した際の「シャイニングスターズ」や「Comodo」の動画を視聴して、思わず感動しました。年齢関係なく歌うことに楽しんでいる姿を観て、ぜひ一緒に活動し、同じ空間を共有したいと思い参加しました。
今回のインターンシップでは9月10日に行われた「ミュージックサロンコンサート2022」に向けた準備を主に行いました。張り紙作成やLINEビジネスの設定、来場者プレゼントの準備など様々なことをしましたが、1番力を入れたのは当日配布するプログラムの作成です。活動先の担当者から「おもしろいものを作ってください」とお願いされ、ハードルが高かったですが、デザインをポップで明るいデザインにし、かわいいという印象を与えられるようにしました。
そしてコンサート当日、想像以上の観客が来てくださり、ほとんど満席でした。パンフレットを「かわいい〜！」と言ってくださる方を見かけたのでうれしかったです。コンサート当日は出演者の方たちの楽屋の様子やスタッフの様子を撮影しました。私自身、イベントの裏方として参加するのは初めてだったので、ステージ袖からの景色には感動しました。出演者の皆さんも思い思いに音楽を楽しんでいてとてもいい空間でした。
今回のインターンシップで様々な人と出会えたことがよかったと思います。いつも素敵な笑顔で物腰の柔らかい担当の方々をはじめ、テキパキと作業をこなし、リーダーシップを発揮してくれた他大学のインターンシップ生の方、ボランティアの経験が豊富で予定外の状況にも臨機応変に対応していた方々と活動できた日々は良い刺激になりました。これから多様な経験を積んで、的確な指示を出せるリーダーや、状況をよく見て冷静に判断できるような人になりたいと思います。充実した大学１回生の夏休みを過ごせました。
Hello! I'm Nodoka Kawahara, a freshman in the Department of Global Tourism.
The long vacation is over, and our classes have started. How was your summer vacation? It ended faster than I had imagined, but I was able to enjoy various experiences. This summer, I participated in a student internship at Dot JP Project, a non-profit organization , and I also want to share my experience with Otonokaze, another non-profit.
Otonokaze, sends performers and music volunteers to social welfare facilities, as well as planning and operating courses with the aim of contributing to society through music. For example, they run salons such as Shining Stars, a gospel chorus, and a Singing Class, which is easy for middle-aged and elderly people in the community who enjoy singing in a group, as well as Comodo, a children's chorus that gives elementary and junior high school children the opportunity to enjoy music. In addition, the organization dispatches music volunteers to social welfare facilities and events. Due to COVID-19, entertainment events for the elderly have decreased, so Otonokaze have started a nursing care program called Music Mix, that combines musical performances with dance and gymnastics. The reason why I chose Otonokaze as my destination is because I like music. They also have a YouTube channel, but I was moved when I watched videos of Shining Stars and Comodo at past events. Seeing them enjoy singing regardless of age, I really wanted to work together and share in this experience.
During my internship, we mainly prepared for an event called Music Salon Concert 2022, which was held on September 10th. I helped out with various tasks such as creating posters, setting up LINE accounts, and preparing presents for visitors, but the most important thing I put my effort into is creating a brochure to be distributed on the day. The person in charge of the activity asked me to create something interesting, which was a challenge, but I tried to make a lively and colorful design to give a cute impression.
On the day of the concert, there were more spectators than I had imagined, and it was almost full. I was happy to see someone saying "Cute!" when looking at the brochure. On the day of the concert, we took pictures of the performers' dressing rooms and the staff. It was my first time participating in an event like this, so I was impressed by the view from the stage. The performers and audience enjoyed the music to their heart's content.
I'm glad that I was able to meet many different people during this internship. It was a good inspiration to work with people who were always smiling and gentle, alongside interns from other universities who worked efficiently as well as displaying leadership. Some already had a lot of experience volunteering and were able to respond to unexpected situations. I would like to gain more experience and grow into being a leader who can give accurate instructions, able to judge things calmly by looking at the situation. I had a fulfilling summer vacation for my first-year as a university student.

Hello! I'm Nodoka Kawahara, a freshman in the Department of Global Tourism.
The long vacation is over, and our classes have started. How was your summer vacation? It ended faster than I had imagined, but I was able to enjoy various experiences. This summer, I participated in a student internship at Dot JP Project, a non-profit organization , and I also want to share my experience with Otonokaze, another non-profit.
Otonokaze, sends performers and music volunteers to social welfare facilities, as well as planning and operating courses with the aim of contributing to society through music. For example, they run salons such as Shining Stars, a gospel chorus, and a Singing Class, which is easy for middle-aged and elderly people in the community who enjoy singing in a group, as well as Comodo, a children's chorus that gives elementary and junior high school children the opportunity to enjoy music. In addition, the organization dispatches music volunteers to social welfare facilities and events. Due to COVID-19, entertainment events for the elderly have decreased, so Otonokaze have started a nursing care program called Music Mix, that combines musical performances with dance and gymnastics. The reason why I chose Otonokaze as my destination is because I like music. They also have a YouTube channel, but I was moved when I watched videos of Shining Stars and Comodo at past events. Seeing them enjoy singing regardless of age, I really wanted to work together and share in this experience.
During my internship, we mainly prepared for an event called Music Salon Concert 2022, which was held on September 10th. I helped out with various tasks such as creating posters, setting up LINE accounts, and preparing presents for visitors, but the most important thing I put my effort into is creating a brochure to be distributed on the day. The person in charge of the activity asked me to create something interesting, which was a challenge, but I tried to make a lively and colorful design to give a cute impression.
On the day of the concert, there were more spectators than I had imagined, and it was almost full. I was happy to see someone saying "Cute!" when looking at the brochure. On the day of the concert, we took pictures of the performers' dressing rooms and the staff. It was my first time participating in an event like this, so I was impressed by the view from the stage. The performers and audience enjoyed the music to their heart's content.
I'm glad that I was able to meet many different people during this internship. It was a good inspiration to work with people who were always smiling and gentle, alongside interns from other universities who worked efficiently as well as displaying leadership. Some already had a lot of experience volunteering and were able to respond to unexpected situations. I would like to gain more experience and grow into being a leader who can give accurate instructions, able to judge things calmly by looking at the situation. I had a fulfilling summer vacation for my first-year as a university student.
