こんにちは！グローバル観光学科2年次生の岩本茉子です。いよいよ9月も始まりましたが、みなさんいかがお過ごしですか？私は夏休みの当初、何をしようかと考えていましたが、ひとつの目標を立てました。それは「読書をする」です。私は大学生になってから、読書をする時間が以前に比べ激減しました。そのため、この機会を利用し読書をしようと決心しました。そこで、今回は私が読んだ中から、一冊の本『木曜日にはココアを』をご紹介したいと思います。
まず、この物語は川沿いの桜並木のそばに佇む喫茶店「マーブル・カフェ」で働く男の子から始まり、そして東京とシドニーをつなぐ12色の物語が綴られている短編集となっています。それぞれのタイトルには「１木曜日にはココアを[Brown/Tokyo]」というように、物語の舞台となる場所と各ストーリーの象徴となるような色が示されています。色には登場人物の様々な想いがつまっているので、そこにもぜひ注目してみてください。
また、この物語の素敵なところはただの短編集ではないという点です。それぞれの物語の主人公は変わりますが、すべてのストーリーが繋がっているのです。まるでひとつの物語かのようにも感じられるため、誰か1人でもこの物語から欠けていると、異なる結末になっていたかもしれません。そう考えると、人と人との縁はとても儚く、奇跡のようなものだなと感じました。
この本を読み終え、私は心がぽかぽかとあったかい気持ちになりました。ありふれた日常の中で、みなさんも悩みや後悔、嬉しい、悲しいといった様々な出来事や感情を抱えていると思います。その時、家族や友達、恋人、あるいは見知らぬ人からの言葉や行動がときにみなさんの背中を押してくれたり、支えとなってくれたりしている人も多いのではないでしょうか。私はこれから何が起こるかわからない長い人生を歩んでいく中で、一瞬一瞬のそうした人との巡り合わせをもっと大切にしていきたいな、とこの本から感じました。

At the beginning of our summer vacation, I was thinking what to do. I set myself one goal: reading books. I have noticed that my reading time has been somewhat reduced since I became a college student. Here I would like to introduce one of the books I read, "Cocoa on Tuesday".
The story opens with a boy who works at Marble Cafe, located on a row of cherry blossom trees along a river. It is a collection of short stories with 12 colorful tales connecting Tokyo and Sydney. Moreover, each title is written with places and colors that symbolize each story. The colors illustrate and imbue the feelings of the characters.
Spoiler alert: these are not just disjointed short stories. All the stories are connected! I read each story are as if it were a standalone tale, and it turns out everything could have ended differently if any one person had been missing from the overall tale. When I think about it, the relationships between people are like some kind of miracle.
This book warms my heart. In our daily lives, words and actions from family, friends, lovers, or strangers may sometimes support and encourage you. After reading this book I would like to cherish such encounters in each moment.

皆さんこんにちは！グローバル観光学科２年次生の廣田歩夢です。先日、2023年の約半分が終了したというTwitterの記事を見て、思ったよりも日数が早く経っていることに気づかされました。皆さんはこの半年どのように過ごしたでしょうか？私はこの半年以上に残りの半年を有意義のものにしたいと思います。さて今回のブログでは岐阜にある杉原千畝記念館に行った時の様子を書いていきます。
まず杉原千畝さんの紹介及び歴史背景です。彼は1940年の7月ナチスからの迫害から逃れるユダヤ人のために通行ビザを発行しました。ヨーロッパ侵攻を受け、ユダヤ人に残された唯一の手段はシベリア鉄道を利用しロシアを横断したのち日本を経由してリトアニアから入国ビザを発行していないオランダ領の国や第三国を目指すしか道が残されていませんでした。シベリア鉄道を利用する際には日本の通過ビザが必要であった為、彼らにとって逃げることは即ち日本ビザを習得することを意味していました。その状況をユダヤ人から伝えられた千畝は日本に向けて、ビザ発行の為の許可を取りました。しかしドイツと同盟を結んでいた日本にとってユダヤ人を逃すことが出来ないことは言うまでもありません。最終的に彼は「首になっても構わない。人道上拒否できない」として本国に背きビザの発行を行いました。
館内には千畝の幼少期時代の紹介やナチス軍によるユダヤ人迫害の歴史、千畝が記入した実物のビザが紹介されていました。その館内の展示によると、彼は7月29日に発行を決断してから出国日までの約1ヶ月の間に2139枚のビザを記入したとされています。彼は領事館やホテルにて記入をし続け最終日には出発の列車内で記入をしました。光を表す白色、収容所の暗さを表す黒色。この2色で対比を表している展示が強く印象に残っています。2139枚のビザによって助かった6000人はシベリア鉄道を利用したのち敦賀から日本に入り神戸から安住の地を求めて出国しました。一方多くのユダヤ人は強制収容所にて日没まで労働を強制され、働けなくなったものは銃殺かガス殺しか残されていませんでした。一日の食事は茶碗の半分である150kcalであったため栄養失調で倒れていきます。死後の骨は証拠隠滅のために地中に埋められていきました。
千畝が発行したビザによって助かった6000人の子孫は現在約25万人いると言われています。ユダヤ教の教えの中に「一つの魂を救うものは世界を救う」とされています。6000人もの魂を救った杉原千畝はどれほど大きな世界を救ったと言えるのでしょうか？国の命令に背き、家族のことを顧みず目の前の人を助けることに尽力した彼の行動には胸を打たれました。皆さんもぜひ1度訪れてみてください。

Recently, I came across an interesting article on Twitter stating that we have already crossed the 45% mark of the year 2023. It made me realize how swiftly time flies. How have you all been spending the past six months? As for myself, I am determined to make the most of the remaining half of the year. In this blog post, I will be sharing my thoughts on the Chiune Sugihara Memorial Hall, located in Gifu prefecture.
Before delving into the details of the memorial hall, I would like to provide some background information on Chiune Sugihara and his remarkable life. In July 1940, during the time when Nazi Germany was expanding its control across Europe, Sugihara saved lives by issuing transit visas to Jewish individuals seeking to escape persecution. These visas enabled them to ride the Trans-Siberian Railway, cross Russia, and reach Dutch territories or other third countries via Japan, where an entry visa was not required. Obtaining a transit visa from Japan was essential for boarding the Trans-Siberian Railway. Even though Japan had formed an alliance with Germany, Sugihara, driven by his deep sense of humanity, felt compelled to help. He sent messages to his superiors in Tokyo, requesting permission to issue visas. Eventually he made the courageous decision to help those in needs and began issuing visas himself.
The Chiune Sugihara Memorial Hall features various exhibits, including insights into Sugihara's early life, the history of Nazi attacks, and actual examples of the visas he issued. According to the exhibition, within a span of just one month, from the day Sugihara decided to write visas on July 29th until he had to leave Lithuania, he managed to write 2,139 visas. He continued writing visas both at the consulate and in his hotel room, and even while on the train as he departed from Kaunas. The exhibition highlights a powerful contrast through the use of a black and white color scheme, symbolizing hope and the darkness of the concentration camps, respectively. This display left a lasting impression on me.
Approximately 6,000 people were saved by boarding the Trans-Siberian Railway and arriving in Suruga. From there, they departed from Kobe to seek refuge. Most Jewish captives were forced to work in labor camps. Failure to work meant facing a grim choice—death by shooting or gas. They were provided the equivalent of only half a rice ball of food per day, leading to severe malnutrition, and in many cases, death. To conceal the evidence, their remains were buried in unmarked graves.
It is estimated that around 250,000 individuals owe their lives to Sugihara's visas and their descendants. According to Jewish doctrine, "Whoever saves one life saves a whole world." Contemplating the magnitude of lives saved by Chiune Sugihara leaves me awestruck. His defiance of orders from Japan and his unwavering dedication to saving lives, even at the expense of his own family, are truly remarkable. I strongly encourage you to visit the Chiune Sugihara Memorial Hall and experience the profound impact of his actions for yourself.

皆さん初めまして！グローバル観光学科３年次生の荒木汐音です。ゴールデンウィークから早1か月が経ち、今年も折り返し地点に入りましたね。皆さんゴールデンウィークはどう過ごしましたか？私は友人と一緒に神奈川県の横浜市へ２泊３日の旅行に行きました。横浜市は歴史的な建造物や美しい景色・街並みが特徴的で、多彩な文化と芸術が盛んな地域です。そんな素敵な地での思い出をいくつか皆さんに紹介したいと思います！
突然ですが、皆さんRed Velvet というグループはご存知でしょうか？ 韓国の大手事務所SMエンターテイメントからデビューした5人組で、韓国や日本だけでなく世界中で多くの人気を博しているグループです。そのRed Velvetが5月3日と4日に横浜でライブを開催することになったため、今回横浜へ行くことが決まりました。今回のライブは私にとって初めてのRed Velvetの単独コンサートだったのですが、本当に全員顔が小さくてかわいく、歌もダンスもすべてが完璧で3時間がこんなにも短く感じたのは初めてでした。2日ともとても楽しく、女神のような人たちを拝めてとても幸せでした。皆さんにもぜひ好きになってほしいため、お勧めの曲とオフィシャルサイトを載せたいと思います。私のおすすめの曲は「Swimming Pool」という日本語曲です。歌詞がとてもかわいくてこれからの季節にピッタリだと思うのでぜひ聞いてみてください♪
他には横浜中華街に行き食べ歩きをしました。ゴールデンウィークということもあり人の多さにとても驚きました。歩けないほど人が多かったのですが、多くの観光客で賑わっていました。中華街に入った途端おいしそうな匂いが漂い食欲をそそるものばかりでした。友人と一緒に小籠包やイチゴ飴など美味しい物をたくさん食べることができました。
夜には「YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN」 というみなとみらいの景色を一望できるロープウェイに乗りました。空中から眺める港や町並みは本当に美しくあっという間でした。私個人的にはお昼に乗るよりも夜に乗った方がより奇麗な景色を堪能することができるのではないかと思います。横浜の魅力を存分に味わえる絶好のスポットなので皆さんにぜひお勧めしたいです！
三日目には赤レンガに行きました。前々からずっと赤レンガを訪れてみたいと思っていたので今回訪れることができて嬉しかったです。私たちが行った時期に「フューリングフェス」という春の訪れをお祝いするドイツのお祭りで、家族や仲間と共にドイツビールやフード、ドイツ楽団の演奏等を楽しみながら春の一日を過ごす様子が風物詩とされるイベントが行われていました。ドイツから輸入されたビールや季節限定のビールが勢ぞろいしておりとても盛り上がっていました。
3日間とも天気に恵まれ最高に楽しい充実した横浜旅行になりました。今回初めて横浜に行ったのですがまた機会があればぜひ行きたいです。
Nice to meet you all! I'm Shiono Araki, a third-year student in the Department of Global Tourism. A month has passed since Golden Week, and we have entered the turning point of the academic year. How did you spend Golden Week? I went on a three-day, two-night trip to Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture with my friend. Yokohama City is home to historic buildings, beautiful scenery, and a fine cityscape, as well as being an area full of diverse culture and arts. I'd like to share with you some memories of my trip to this wonderful place!
Do you know of Red Velvet, a group of five performers that debuted recently? They are signed to SM Entertainment, a major Korean label. They are, gaining popularity not only in Korea and Japan but also around the world? The Red Velvet will perform live in Yokohama on May 3rd and 4th, so we decided to go to Yokohama this time. This was to be my first Red Velvet solo concert, and it was the first time I’d ever felt that 3 hours was too short because everyone's faces were so small and cute, and everything was perfect in their singing and dancing. Both dates were very fun, and I was very happy to be able to worship my idols. I would like to post a song recommendation and an official website to make you like it. My recommendation is a Japanese song called "Swimming Pool”. The lyrics are so cute that I think it will be perfect for the coming season, so please listen to them♪
Other than that, I went to Yokohama Chinatown to eat and walk. I was very surprised by the number of people during Golden Week. There were so many people that I couldn't walk, but it was crowded with many tourists. As soon as I entered Chinatown, there was a delicious smell, and all the food was appetizing. I was able to eat a lot of delicious food such as xiaolongbao and strawberry candy with my friend.
At night, I rode a ropeway called "YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN ", which offers a panoramic view of Minato Mirai. “The ports and the streets viewed from the air were beautiful and quick. Personally, I think I can enjoy a more beautiful view at night than at lunch. It’s a great place to fully enjoy the charm of Yokohama, so I would recommend it to everyone!
On the third day, I went to Akarenga. I've always wanted to visit Akarenga, so I was happy to be able to visit this time. At a German festival celebrating the arrival of spring called "Furring Fest" during our visit, there was an event that was considered a feature of spending a spring day with family and friends enjoying German beer, food, and performances by German orchestras. There was a lot of beer imported from Germany and seasonal beer, so it was very exciting.
The weather was good for all three days, and it was the most enjoyable and fulfilling trip to Yokoyama went to Yokohama for the first time and would love to visit again if I have a chance.

Other than that, I went to Yokohama Chinatown to eat and walk. I was very surprised by the number of people during Golden Week. There were so many people that I couldn't walk, but it was crowded with many tourists. As soon as I entered Chinatown, there was a delicious smell, and all the food was appetizing. I was able to eat a lot of delicious food such as xiaolongbao and strawberry candy with my friend.
At night, I rode a ropeway called "YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN ", which offers a panoramic view of Minato Mirai. “The ports and the streets viewed from the air were beautiful and quick. Personally, I think I can enjoy a more beautiful view at night than at lunch. It’s a great place to fully enjoy the charm of Yokohama, so I would recommend it to everyone!
On the third day, I went to Akarenga. I've always wanted to visit Akarenga, so I was happy to be able to visit this time. At a German festival celebrating the arrival of spring called "Furring Fest" during our visit, there was an event that was considered a feature of spending a spring day with family and friends enjoying German beer, food, and performances by German orchestras. There was a lot of beer imported from Germany and seasonal beer, so it was very exciting.
The weather was good for all three days, and it was the most enjoyable and fulfilling trip to Yokoyama went to Yokohama for the first time and would love to visit again if I have a chance.

皆さん、こんにちは。グローバル観光学科2年次生の吉田琳香です。春学期が始まり1ヶ月経とうとしていますが、授業やサークル活動には慣れてきましたか？今回は大阪中之島美術館で開催されている「デザインに恋したアート♡アートに嫉妬したデザイン」を観に行って来ましたので紹介します。
さて、この展覧会では、デザインとアートの境界線に着目しテーマとしています。デザインの要素が含まれたアート作品や、アート的要素を持ったデザイン作品が展示されており、一つの作品に対して、デザインかアートかという視点で捉えることができます。また、デザインかアートかデバイスで投票できるシステムがあり、最後に来場者の投票結果を見ることができます。このような参加型の鑑賞は初めてでしたが、他の来場者の意見から作品に対する見方を広げることができました。
実際に一つの作品に対して、デザインかアートかという視点で見ていくのは面白かったです。例えば、シンプルなデザインの椅子が展示されていた場合、それがデザインなのか、アートなのか、どちらの視点でも楽しむことができます。また、逆にアート的な絵画が展示されていた場合、それがデザイン的要素を持っているのか、どちらの視点でも考えることができます。こういった切り口で作品を見ることで、普段とは違う視点から鑑賞することができました。
また、中之島美術館１階にあるHAYというインテリアプロダクトを扱っているお店があります。そこで、この展覧会で得た、デザインかアートかという視点を持ちながら家具や雑貨を眺めるとより楽しいと思います。

It has been a month since the spring semester started. Have you gotten used to your classes and club activities? I would like to introduce to you an exhibition I went to see at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka, titled Art in Love with Design ♡ Design Envious of Art.
The theme of this exhibition focuses on the borderline between design and art. The exhibition displays artworks and design works with artistic elements, inviting visitors to consider whether each piece is art or design. There is also a system that allows visitors to vote on whether the work is design or art using their smartphones, etc., and at the end of the exhibition, visitors can see the results of their votes. This was the first time I had taken part in this type of participatory viewing, and I broadened my view of the artwork through the opinions of other visitors.
It was interesting to actually look at the pieces on display from the perspective of design or art. For example, if a chair with a simple design is shown as an exhibit, you can enjoy it from either perspective, be it design or art. On the other hand, if a painting is on display, you can consider whether it has design elements from that perspective. By looking at these works from multiple perspectives, I was able to appreciate them from a different point of view.
There is also a store on the first floor of the Nakanoshima Art Museum called HAY that sells interior products. It was more enjoyable to look at the furniture and products on sale from the perspectives I gained from this exhibition. The Art in Love with Design ♡ Design Envious of Art exhibition will be available for viewing at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka until June 18, so why not visit during Golden Week?

みなさん、こんにちは！グローバル観光学科1年次生の岩本茉子です。桜の花もだんだんと色づき、お出かけをするのが楽しくなる季節となってきましたね。また、明日からは4月が始まり、いよいよ新学期を迎えます。今年度も実りある1年になりますよう頑張っていきましょう！
さて、3月20日に京都外国語大学では卒業式が行われました。ご卒業された4年次生の皆様、おめでとうございます！
皆様にとって、京都外国語大学はどのような場所となったでしょうか。新しい出会いや挑戦、ワクワクしたこと、嬉しかったこと、悔しかったこと…。数えきれない思い出がこの場所で築かれたことと思います。そして、その出来事はきっとかけがいのないものとなったことでしょう。
また、私たち在学生にとっても先輩方はとても大きな存在でした。それは言葉では伝えきれない程の尊敬と感謝の気持ちで溢れています。何事に対しても一生懸命に取り組み、挑戦をし続けるお姿には毎回、刺激をもらいました。時には私たちが悩んだ時に話を聞いてくださり、アドバイスをくださったこともありました。それらは今の私たちへと繋がっており、これからの学生生活の中でも活かしていけるように頑張っていきたいと思います。いつも私たちの前を歩み、手を差し伸べてくださりありがとうございました！

I am sure you have countless memories of this school, such as new experiences, challenges, excitement, frustration, and more. These experiences are precious and will stay with you for a lifetime.
You were a large presence for students currently enrolled, and we have the utmost respect and gratitude for you. Your hard work and perseverance were an inspiration to us. You listened to our concerns and provided valuable advice, which helped shape who we are today. We will do our best to make use of these experiences in our university life.
