We Japanese people live in a developed country and we can always eat whatever we like and whenever we like. However, can we imagine that people in developing countries cannot eat enough every day to stay healthy? Can we imagine that? Can we?
It is important for us to truly understand hunger. We have to understand now. The Hunger Banquet is a project used by UNESCO Oxfam to help educate people about world food problems. In our event, 100 people will be identified with three groups; economically-powerful countries, middle-ranking countries, and developing countries. Through each group of people eating food which represents three very different economic levels, we can experience the serious and unfair gaps in how the world's people eat. We do not think about this in our ordinary daily lives. The differences between wealth and poverty are sad in the ways people eat. Hunger is not unrelated to us. We hope we will understand more about the world's poverty through this project.
